Reviewed a 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG C 63 S Coupe on Apr 11, 2023
The c63s is one of the best cars Ive ever driven. The steering, throttle response and brakes are all amazing. The suspension is extremely rough, even compared to cars like the F-type. However the driving experience makes the bumpy ride worth it. It has a great interior with a good sized trunk. The back seats are small, but much larger than a LC500. If youre in the market for a fast and fun car definitely pick one up. Its an amazing car with an amazing hand-built V8 that will last. Id definitely take a C63 coupe over a F-type, DB11, Hellcat, M4, M8, Gt350 and almost every car in the segment. (Below the Lc500 though) Overall a great car you should pick up if its in your budget.

The Mercedes Benz C Coupe sets itself aside from its sedan version. In fact, despite having the same nameplate, and badging, it is an entirely different car. Kudos to the sedan, no doubt, but the Coupe just epitomizes the right balance between pure luxury and pure sport. It is pleasant to find how well it does both in equal parts. Beautifully styled inside and out, it offers upgrades as standard that are options with the sedan. Drives enthusiastically, precisely, and comfortably. This model year is where the depreciation has its full effect and is quite affordable. It puts a smile on my face just by gazing at it, let alone what it does when I get behind the wheel.

Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class a good car?
Yes — 4.5/5 from owners, and 7.83/10 from CarGurus experts. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.
Drivers consistently praise its powerful performance, stylish design, and luxurious features, along with the responsive, comfortable driving experience. The overview also points to a refined interior and a strong blend of comfort, performance, and style, which makes it a good fit if you want a compact luxury sedan that feels upscale without being over the top.
The market also shows 32.1% good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers describe it as powerful, comfortable, and luxurious, and the review summary also points to a generally dependable ownership experience, even while noting some concerns about maintenance costs and a leaky fuel line in some models. The expert write-up reinforces that this is a car built to deliver a polished, confidence-inspiring drive over time.
Mercedes also positions the car as a well-rounded luxury sedan with strong everyday usability, but used buyers should still budget for higher ownership costs and verify that any prior fuel-system or maintenance issues have been addressed.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class?
At 56.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or any signs of uneven panel gaps, paint mismatch, or suspension wear. Pay close attention to maintenance records, since ownership costs can run higher than average for this class. It’s also smart to confirm that the car’s electronics, driver-assistance features, and infotainment functions all work as intended.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin is upscale even in standard form, but the base setup uses a 7-inch central screen and standard halogen lighting, so you’ll want to check whether the car has the features you expect before you buy.
- Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 7-speed automatic and available rear- or 4Matic all-wheel drive. It delivers strong everyday shove, though fuel economy is only average for the class.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision alert with auto-braking, Pre-Safe, rear side thorax-level airbags, stability control that can help counter crosswinds, an attention monitor, and rain-drying brake behavior. Optional features include blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, pedestrian detection, cross-traffic alerts, and Pre-Safe Plus.
- Infotainment: A 7-inch central screen is standard with Bluetooth, HD Radio, and two USB ports. The available 8.4-inch screen adds navigation, three years of map updates, and five years of SiriusXM traffic and weather data, and the system also offers voice recognition and an in-car Wi-Fi hotspot.
- Fuel efficiency: The 4Matic model is rated at 24 mpg city and 31 highway, while rear-wheel-drive models reach 34 mpg highway. In testing, the car averaged 23 mpg.
Which 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class trim should I buy?
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is offered in 1 trim level: C300.
Here's the short version:
The C300 is the trim to focus on because it’s the core version you’ll find most often, and it delivers the model’s main strengths: strong turbocharged performance, a polished cabin, and a broad set of standard safety features. If you want the best balance of price and equipment, look for a well-kept example with the options you care about rather than stretching for a more heavily optioned car.
The safety package is a major plus here, since standard equipment already includes forward-collision alert with auto-braking, Pre-Safe, rear side thorax-level airbags, and an attention monitor.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to reward careful shopping.
- Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,950 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.03% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 56.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $17,468.17, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class's resale value?
The current average of $17,521 sits slightly below last year's $19,259.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point if you plan to keep the car for a while. For a future seller, the softer current pricing means resale upside may be more limited in the near term unless the car is especially well equipped and well maintained. Strong condition and complete service history matter even more when the broader market has already cooled.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class safe?
The 2017 C-Class has a five-star rating by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and top ratings by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, which tested a 2016 model and gave it the Top Safety Pick+ award.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
Mercedes includes a strong standard safety suite here, with forward-collision alert and auto-braking, Pre-Safe, rear side thorax-level airbags, stability control that can help manage crosswinds, an attention monitor, and brake-drying behavior in wet conditions. Optional safety features include blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, pedestrian detection, cross-traffic alerts, and Pre-Safe Plus.
Should I buy a 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 56.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.03% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- More of the same—and that’s a very good thing.
The bottom line: If you want a refined compact luxury sedan with strong safety, a polished cabin, and a market that currently favors patient shoppers, the 2017 C-Class is a sensible pick. If your priority is stretching your budget further, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the best-maintained example rather than the newest badge.
