CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
overall

Summary
With 299 currently listed for sale near Hartford, CT and an average price of $17,023, 28.4% of 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class 4.5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
64.9% of 2017 C-Class models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class stands out as a compact luxury sedan that delivers a near-perfect blend of comfort, performance, price, and snob appeal. It is also notable for being the best-selling Mercedes-Benz in the U.S., with more than 70,000 Americans taking one home in 2016. That combination helps explain why it remains such a compelling choice for buyers who want a premium badge without giving up everyday livability.
For 2017, the formula is essentially more of the same, which is a strength here rather than a weakness. The car’s appeal comes from its balanced character: it is stylish, luxurious, and responsive, while still feeling comfortable to drive. The main tradeoffs are practical ones, since some owners report that maintenance costs can be high and taller passengers may find the cabin a bit cramped.

This is a great car. It’s got the right engine and specs needed for the C-Class sedan compared to the C300 model.

Reviewed a 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG C 63 S Coupe on Apr 11, 2023
The c63s is one of the best cars Ive ever driven. The steering, throttle response and brakes are all amazing. The suspension is extremely rough, even compared to cars like the F-type. However the driving experience makes the bumpy ride worth it. It has a great interior with a good sized trunk. The back seats are small, but much larger than a LC500. If youre in the market for a fast and fun car definitely pick one up. Its an amazing car with an amazing hand-built V8 that will last. Id definitely take a C63 coupe over a F-type, DB11, Hellcat, M4, M8, Gt350 and almost every car in the segment. (Below the Lc500 though) Overall a great car you should pick up if its in your budget.

Reviewed a 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class on Mar 18, 2022
The Mercedes Benz C Coupe sets itself aside from its sedan version. In fact, despite having the same nameplate, and badging, it is an entirely different car. Kudos to the sedan, no doubt, but the Coupe just epitomizes the right balance between pure luxury and pure sport. It is pleasant to find how well it does both in equal parts. Beautifully styled inside and out, it offers upgrades as standard that are options with the sedan. Drives enthusiastically, precisely, and comfortably. This model year is where the depreciation has its full effect and is quite affordable. It puts a smile on my face just by gazing at it, let alone what it does when I get behind the wheel.

Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class a good car?
Yes — the 4.5/5 user rating and 7.83/10 expert rating both point to a strong overall package. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.
Drivers consistently praise the C-Class for its powerful performance, stylish design, and luxurious features. The review summary also highlights its responsiveness and comfort, which fits the car’s role as a compact luxury sedan that balances everyday livability with premium appeal.
For you, that means this model year makes the most sense if you want a premium badge without giving up a comfortable daily driver. The market also shows 31.1% good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The review summary points to a car that many drivers find powerful, comfortable, and luxurious, while also noting that some owners have concerns about maintenance costs and a leaky fuel line in some models. That mix suggests the C-Class can be satisfying to live with, but it rewards careful shopping and a close look at service history.
The expert test-drive notes also emphasize that the car is polished and well-rounded, though repair bills can be a consideration. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a premium driving experience can come with premium upkeep if the car has been neglected.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class?
At 56.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important on a luxury sedan like this, since condition and maintenance history can matter as much as mileage. Pay close attention to signs of deferred service, uneven wear, and any electrical or fuel-system concerns mentioned in the vehicle’s records.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The standard setup includes a 7-inch central screen, Bluetooth, HD Radio, two USB ports, forward-collision alert with auto-braking, Pre-Safe, rear side thorax-level airbags, and an attention monitor. Higher equipment levels add an 8.4-inch screen with navigation, map updates, SiriusXM traffic and weather data, LED headlights and taillights, and more advanced convenience and audio features.
- Powertrain: The main engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 7-speed automatic and available rear-wheel drive or 4Matic all-wheel drive. The performance notes describe strong everyday shove, balanced steering, and a composed Comfort mode, though fuel economy is not especially impressive.
- Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes forward-collision alert with auto-braking, Pre-Safe, rear side thorax-level airbags, stability control that can help counter crosswinds, and an attention monitor. Optional features include blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, pedestrian detection, cross-traffic alerts, and Pre-Safe Plus.
- Infotainment: The standard setup uses a 7-inch central screen with Bluetooth, HD Radio, and two USB ports. An 8.4-inch screen is available with navigation, three years of map updates, five years of SiriusXM traffic and weather data, voice recognition, and an in-car Wi-Fi hotspot.
- Fuel efficiency: The performance notes say the rear-wheel-drive model can reach 34 mpg on the highway, while the 4Matic version is rated at 24 mpg city and 31 mpg highway. Real-world testing returned 23 mpg.
Which 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class trim should I buy?
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is offered in 3 trim levels: C300, AMG C43, AMG C63.
Here's the short version:
- C300: This is the core choice and the one most shoppers will cross-shop first. It gives you the 2.0-liter turbo four, the standard luxury and safety equipment, and the broadest mix of rear-wheel drive or 4Matic all-wheel drive. It is the best-value trim if you want the C-Class experience without chasing the highest price or the most aggressive performance.
- AMG C43: This trim is the step-up choice if you want much stronger performance and a more serious driving character. The content identifies it as one of the high-powered AMG models, so it suits you if acceleration and enthusiast appeal matter more than keeping costs in check.
- AMG C63: This is the top performance option, aimed at buyers who want the most powerful and dramatic version of the C-Class. It is the right pick only if you specifically want the AMG flagship character and are comfortable with the higher ownership costs that come with it.
The safety content notes that Mercedes includes substantial standard protection, while additional driver-assistance features remain optional.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right car.
- Deal availability: 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,854 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.40% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 56.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $17,330, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class's resale value?
The current average of $17,633 sits slightly below last year's $18,838.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you can reduce the impact of that depreciation. Premium cars with good demand tend to hold attention better than niche alternatives, especially when they remain desirable as used luxury sedans.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class safe?
The 2017 C-Class has a five-star rating by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and top ratings by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, which tested a 2016 model and gave it the Top Safety Pick+ award.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes forward-collision alert with auto-braking, Pre-Safe, rear side thorax-level airbags, an attention monitor, and stability control that can help compensate for crosswinds. Optional driver-assistance features include blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, pedestrian detection, cross-traffic alerts, and Pre-Safe Plus.
Should I buy a 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 56.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.40% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- More of the same is the point here: the 2017 model keeps the C-Class formula of comfort, performance, price, and snob appeal intact.
The bottom line: If you want the classic C-Class balance of luxury, performance, and everyday usability, the 2017 is a solid buy. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can use the softer market and broad inventory to shop carefully for a well-kept example rather than rushing into the first one you see.
