What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Audi A4?

At 58.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or any warning-light history. Focus on the condition of the interior electronics, driver-assistance features, and braking behavior, since those are the kinds of systems that can become expensive or annoying if they are not working properly.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Premium trim includes front-wheel drive, a 7-speed automated manual transmission, 17-inch aluminum wheels, HID headlights, leather seats, triple-zone automatic climate control, a 10-speaker sound system, and forward-collision warning with front and rear automatic emergency braking. Premium Plus adds S-line exterior trim, larger 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, parking-assist sensors, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, passive keyless entry, and SOS emergency calling. Prestige adds Audi Virtual Cockpit, navigation with handwriting recognition, Audi Connect services, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, a heads-up display, and a 360-degree top-view camera system.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine makes 252 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque, and the Quattro all-wheel-drive setup is described as torque-vectoring with a self-locking center differential. The car is also described as quick and responsive, with a 7-speed dual-clutch automated manual gearbox and Drive Mode Select settings that change engine response, transmission behavior, and steering feel.
• Safety package: Audi Pre-Sense Basic and Pre-Sense City are standard, along with forward collision warning, front and rear automatic emergency braking, and pedestrian detection. Higher trims add blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic assist, lane-departure warning and assist, turn assist, Pre-Sense Rear, and automatic high-beam headlights.
• Infotainment: The MMI system uses an 8.3-inch screen, and the car offers Audi Virtual Cockpit on a 12.3-inch display in higher trims. Audi Connect adds a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, smartphone-based remote functions, and other connected services.
• Fuel efficiency: The Quattro model is said to return 27 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2017 Audi A4 trim should I buy?

The 2017 Audi A4 is offered in 3 trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, Prestige.

Here's the short version:

• Premium: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core A4 experience with leather seats, triple-zone climate control, and standard collision-avoidance tech. It makes sense if you want the redesigned A4’s driving feel and upscale basics without paying for the more advanced tech and convenience features.
• Premium Plus: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the equipment that makes the A4 feel more complete, including LED headlights, parking-assist sensors, passive keyless entry, and the upgraded Bang & Olufsen audio system. If you want a stronger mix of luxury and everyday usability, this is the trim to target.
• Prestige: This is the most feature-rich version, adding Audi Virtual Cockpit, navigation, Audi Connect, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, a heads-up display, and a 360-degree camera system. It suits you best if you want the most advanced technology and driver-assistance content in the lineup.

Safety-package note: the most advanced driver-assistance features are concentrated in the higher trims, while the base version keeps the essentials.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Audi A4?

The market looks moderately favorable if you’re a selective buyer.

• Deal availability: 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 893 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.90% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,533, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Audi A4's resale value?

The current average of $13,637 sits slightly below last year's $14,648.

That price movement suggests the A4 has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right number. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range, you reduce the amount of value left to lose over your ownership period.

Strong owner satisfaction also helps support demand when it’s time to sell. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment and clean history should be easier to move than cars with accident records or missing features.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.47/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Audi A4 safe?

The 2017 Audi A4 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Audi Pre-Sense Basic is standard, and Pre-Sense City adds forward collision warning, front and rear automatic emergency braking, and pedestrian detection. Higher trims add blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic assist, lane-departure warning and assist, turn assist, Pre-Sense Rear, and automatic high-beam headlights.

One thing to watch is that the automatic emergency braking system can be intrusive in some situations, so you should test its behavior carefully during your inspection drive.

Should I buy a 2017 Audi A4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.90% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.47/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 redesign is a major step forward for Audi’s design, engineering, and technology direction, with standout features like Virtual Cockpit and a strong safety package.

The bottom line: The 2017 is the right pick if you want the redesigned A4’s newer look, stronger tech, and broad appeal at a softened price. If you’re especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may cost less, but the 2017 is the better choice when you want the more modern package and are willing to shop carefully for a clean, well-equipped example.
