Used 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata for Sale nearAlbany, NY

How much does the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 265 listings available, which gives you a modest pool to compare before you buy.

Is the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata earns a 4.62/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Cost effectiveness.

Owners consistently praise the fun driving experience, adept handling, and sporty appearance. They also like the comfortable interior and modern amenities, which helps the Miata appeal beyond pure weekend-toy shoppers.

That lines up with the car’s use case: you’re getting an affordable performance car that still offers refinement, plus the unusual choice of a coupe or power retractable hardtop for added versatility. 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata reliable?

Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with praise for the car’s reliable performance and strong overall value. The expert evaluation reinforces that sense of consistency by emphasizing the Miata’s smooth, direct manual transmission and its well-sorted driving character.

Mazda also notes that the Miata’s purist driving setup is part of its appeal, and the available hardtop adds all-season protection without changing the car’s lightweight personality much. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical complexity and more about whether the specific car has been cared for and equipped the way you want.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata?

At 62.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then focus your inspection on body condition, roof operation, and any signs of prior repair work. Because this car is often bought for enjoyment, it’s worth paying close attention to how well the interior, top mechanism, and exterior panels have held up.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport trim is the simplest version and includes push-button start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter knob, a USB port, and Bluetooth hands-free calling and streaming music. The Club adds the 7-inch Mazda Connect infotainment screen, a 9-speaker Bose audio system, dual USB ports, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. The Grand Touring adds leather heated sport seats, a navigation system, and lane-departure warning. If you want the best value, the Club is the strongest middle ground because it adds meaningful convenience and safety equipment without jumping all the way to the top trim.
• Powertrain: Every version uses a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine with 155 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque. You can choose a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic, and the manual is the one that best matches the car’s character. The automatic brings slightly better highway fuel economy, while the manual keeps the Miata’s driving feel intact.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a full array of front- and side-impact airbags, rollover bar construction, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic monitoring are standard on the Club and RF Club, while lane-departure warning and adaptive front headlights appear on the Grand Touring. Base-trim buyers miss out on those extra driver aids.
• Infotainment: The Club and higher trims get the 7-inch Mazda Connect infotainment screen, and the system uses a controller dial for most functions. Bluetooth is standard, and navigation is available on higher trims. The screen only becomes a touchscreen when you come to a complete stop, so you should make sure that setup works for you before buying.
• Fuel efficiency: Both transmissions return 26 mpg city and 29 mpg combined. The automatic gets 35 mpg on the highway, while the manual gets 33 mpg highway.

Which 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata trim should I buy?

The 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Club, Grand Touring, Launch Edition.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the simplest and least expensive way into the Miata, and it suits you if you want the purest driving experience with the fewest extras. You get the core Miata formula, but not the added convenience and safety features found higher up the range.
• Club: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 7-inch Mazda Connect screen, Bose audio, dual USB ports, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, this is the one to target.
• Grand Touring: Choose this if you want the most comfort-focused Miata, with leather heated sport seats, navigation, lane-departure warning, and adaptive front headlights. It’s the right pick if you care more about amenities than keeping the price down.
• Launch Edition: This is the special RF version with the Grand Touring equipment plus an exclusive hand-painted black roof, Machine Grey Metallic paint, and Auburn Nappa leather interior. It makes sense if you want the most distinctive and limited-production version.

The Club and RF Club add blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic monitoring, while the Grand Touring adds lane-departure warning and adaptive front headlights.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep buyer’s market.

• Deal availability: 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 265 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 62.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,421, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata's resale value?

The current average of $20,835 sits slightly above last year's $20,674.

That small increase suggests the Miata has held its value reasonably well, which is a good sign if you plan to sell later. Stable pricing also means the market is not showing signs of a sharp drop, so a well-kept example should remain relatively easy to price competitively.

Because demand is supported by the car’s fun-to-drive reputation and broad appeal, clean examples should continue to attract attention. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata safe?

The 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes a full array of front- and side-impact airbags, rollover bar construction, and a tire pressure monitoring system. The Club and RF Club add blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic monitoring, while the Grand Touring adds lane-departure warning and adaptive front headlights.

A notable shortcoming is the lack of a reversing camera, which is especially worth checking for if you plan to use the car in tight parking situations. That omission stands out because the car’s rear visibility and low-slung shape make backup assistance especially useful.

Should I buy a 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 adds the Miata RF retractable hardtop, giving you more versatility and a more distinctive look than the soft-top alone.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $19,154, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $20,835 average.
• It delivers a redesigned, value-focused sports-car experience with easy maintenance and reliable performance.

The bottom line: If you want the most versatile and visually distinctive Miata in this range, the 2017 is the better target. If your priority is saving money and you mainly want the classic lightweight roadster experience, the 2016 is the more budget-friendly path.
