How much does the 2017 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have softened 2.18% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,922 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare on price and condition.

Is the 2017 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Mazda CX-5 earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its stylish design, smooth ride, and excellent reliability, and they also call out comfortable handling and good fuel economy. The overview frames it as a sporty, upscale compact crossover that works well if you want a commuter with more space and a more premium feel than the average crossover. With 32.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary specifically highlights excellent reliability, and it also points to the CX-5 as a vehicle people appreciate for long trips and everyday use. The expert driving notes reinforce that it feels composed and confidence-inspiring, with strong acceleration, clean cornering behavior, and a chassis tuned to make the vehicle feel settled and predictable. Mazda also includes Smart City Brake Support, which adds another layer of everyday peace of mind.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well and has not picked up hidden wear from prior use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mazda CX-5?

At 58.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, alignment, and signs of prior repair. Because this model is often chosen for its upscale feel and strong road manners, condition matters a lot: a clean example should feel tight, quiet, and well-kept. If you are comparing multiple listings, focus on how the trim equipment matches the asking price and whether the vehicle shows signs of heavy use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, power side mirrors, a reversing camera, keyless entry, push-button start, dual USB ports, MazdaConnect infotainment, and Bluetooth hands-free calling. Touring adds leatherette seating, auto-leveling headlights, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, rear USB ports, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, rear climate control vents, and Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry. Grand Touring adds 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, adaptive headlights, LED fog lights, heated side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, a power moonroof, a power rear liftgate, full leather seating, an 8-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support, navigation, auto-dimming mirrors, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a 10-speaker Bose premium stereo.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 187 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive. Fuel economy is listed at 24 mpg city, 31 highway, and 27 combined for FWD models, and 23 city, 30 highway, and 26 combined for AWD versions.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, and Smart City Brake Support. Touring adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Grand Touring adds adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. The automatic emergency braking-equipped version is the one named a Top Safety Pick+ by IIHS.
• Infotainment: MazdaConnect uses a 7-inch screen controlled by a rotary dial, with touch capability when the vehicle is in Park. The system does not offer Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
• Fuel efficiency: The CX-5 is rated at 24 mpg city, 31 highway, and 27 combined with front-wheel drive, or 23 city, 30 highway, and 26 combined with all-wheel drive.

Which 2017 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2017 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 3 trim levels: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core CX-5 experience with the standard safety and convenience basics. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and do not need the extra comfort and tech features found higher up.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a meaningful comfort upgrade with heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, leatherette seating, rear USB ports, and Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry. It also adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, which makes it a smart middle ground.
• Grand Touring: This is the most upscale version, with leather seating, a power moonroof, a power rear liftgate, navigation, and the Bose audio system. It is the right pick if you want the most premium CX-5 experience and are willing to pay for it.

The safety-package trim note is simple: the most advanced driver-assistance features are reserved for Grand Touring, and the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ recognition applies when automatic emergency braking is equipped.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mazda CX-5?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,922 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.18% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,189, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $15,958 sits slightly below last year's $16,313.

That price movement suggests the CX-5 has softened a bit, which can help you as a buyer now but may temper resale upside if you plan to sell soon. Even so, the model’s strong reputation for style, comfort, and reliability should help it stay appealing to used shoppers. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment and clean history should remain easier to move than neglected ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The CX-5 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS when equipped with automatic emergency braking.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, and Smart City Brake Support. Touring adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while Grand Touring adds adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. That higher-level driver-assistance setup is the one tied to the strongest IIHS recognition.

Should I buy a 2017 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.18% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 stands out as the fun-to-drive, upscale choice in the compact crossover segment.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $16,614, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $15,958 average.
• It pushes Mazda further toward a more premium-feeling compact crossover.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2017 is the stronger starting point because prices have eased and there are plenty of listings to compare. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2018 is the better secondary path, but the 2017 already delivers the core CX-5 appeal at a lower average price.
