How much does the 2017 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 1,999 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare on price, trim, and condition.

Is the 2017 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Mazda CX-5 earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its stylish design, smooth ride, comfortable handling, fuel economy, and reliability. The overview also positions it as a practical choice for you if you want more space than a sedan without giving up driving enjoyment, or if you want a nicer-feeling crossover without moving into a luxury brand.

With 33.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively for value.

Is the 2017 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback highlights excellent reliability, and the summary also points to a trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers. The expert drive notes reinforce that this is a vehicle you can count on for everyday use, with strong driving manners and a polished feel.

The cost-effectiveness notes also show that Mazda priced the CX-5 as an upscale compact crossover, so used buyers should pay close attention to condition and maintenance history to avoid overpaying for a well-equipped example that has been neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mazda CX-5?

At 57.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment level matches the trim you think you’re buying.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport trim includes 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, power side mirrors, a reversing camera, keyless entry, push-button start, dual USB ports, MazdaConnect infotainment, and Bluetooth hands-free calling. Touring adds leatherette seating, auto-leveling headlights, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, rear USB ports, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, rear climate control vents, and Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry. Grand Touring adds 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, adaptive headlights, LED fog lights, heated side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, a power moonroof, a power rear liftgate, full leather seating, an 8-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support, navigation, auto-dimming mirrors, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a 10-speaker Bose premium stereo.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 187 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive. The driving character is tuned for strong acceleration and confident cornering.
• Safety package: Smart City Brake Support is standard, and it can pre-charge the brakes and automatically engage them at low speeds if needed. Touring adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Grand Touring adds adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. The automatic emergency braking equipment is tied to the model’s Top Safety Pick+ recognition from IIHS.
• Infotainment: MazdaConnect uses a 7-inch screen controlled by a rotary dial, though the screen becomes a touchscreen when the vehicle is in Park. It does not offer Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
• Fuel efficiency: The FWD model returns 24 mpg city, 31 highway, and 27 combined, while AWD versions return 23 city, 30 highway, and 26 combined. The AWD test car averaged 26.3 mpg.

Which 2017 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2017 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 3 trim levels: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the value play if you want the CX-5’s core strengths at the lowest entry price. You still get the key everyday features, including LED headlights, a reversing camera, keyless entry, push-button start, dual USB ports, MazdaConnect, and Bluetooth hands-free calling.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the comfort and convenience upgrades that make the CX-5 feel more upscale, including heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, leatherette seating, rear USB ports, and Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry.
• Grand Touring: Choose this if you want the most premium-feeling CX-5, with leather seating, a power moonroof, a power liftgate, navigation, and the Bose audio system. It also brings the most advanced safety and driver-assistance equipment.

The safety package expands as you move up the range, with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert on Touring, and adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking on Grand Touring.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mazda CX-5?

This is a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,999 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 57.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,192, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $15,963 sits slightly above last year's $15,900.

That small increase suggests the CX-5 has held its value fairly well, which is a good sign if you plan to sell later. Stable pricing also points to steady demand rather than a market that is weakening quickly.

Because the model has a strong reputation for style, driving enjoyment, and reliability, it should remain appealing to used buyers who want a more upscale compact crossover. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment are likely to be easier to move than neglected ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2017 Mazda CX-5 earns a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS when equipped with automatic emergency braking.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, and Smart City Brake Support. Touring adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while Grand Touring adds adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking.

The main caveat is that the strongest safety recognition depends on the automatic emergency braking-equipped setup, so you should confirm the exact trim and equipment on any used listing you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2017 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 57.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 CX-5 is praised for being fun to drive while still feeling uniquely upscale in its class.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $16,466, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $15,963 average.
• It pushes Mazda further toward premium territory and is described as delivering a more polished, premium-leaning experience.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2017 is the smarter starting point because it combines strong owner satisfaction, stable pricing, and a distinctive driving character. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer-feeling, more premium-leaning version, the 2018 is the better alternative.

How does the 2017 Mazda CX-5 compare to the 2017 Honda CR-V?

Our experts score the 2017 Mazda CX-5 7.3/10 and the 2017 Honda CR-V 8.7/10. The CX-5 is the more engaging and upscale-feeling choice, while the CR-V leans harder into practicality and broader appeal. If you care most about driving enjoyment and a nicer cabin feel, the Mazda has the edge; if you want the stronger all-around utility package, the Honda is the safer bet.
