How much does the 2017 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 1,915 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2017 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Mazda CX-5 earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its stylish design, smooth ride, and excellent reliability, and many also like the comfortable handling and fuel economy. The overview frames it as a compact crossover for you if you want something practical but still fun to drive and a little more premium than the average mainstream SUV.

With 33.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still room to find a strong-value example.

Is the 2017 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also points to excellent reliability, and it describes the CX-5 as dependable enough for long trips and everyday use. The expert driving notes reinforce that sense of confidence by highlighting strong acceleration, composed cornering, and braking that provides plenty of stopping power.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure a well-kept example hasn’t been neglected, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage vehicle.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mazda CX-5?

At 58.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the vehicle’s equipment and wear match the seller’s description. If you’re comparing multiple examples, a cleaner history and better-maintained interior usually matter more than small price differences.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, power side mirrors, a reversing camera, keyless entry, push-button start, dual USB ports, MazdaConnect infotainment, and Bluetooth hands-free calling. Touring adds leatherette seating, auto-leveling headlights, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, rear USB ports, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, rear climate vents, and Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry. Grand Touring adds 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, adaptive headlights, LED fog lights, heated side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, a power moonroof, a power rear liftgate, full leather seating, an 8-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support, navigation, auto-dimming mirrors, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a 10-speaker Bose premium stereo.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 187 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available.
• Safety package: The CX-5 comes standard with front- and side-impact airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, and Smart City Brake Support. Touring adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Grand Touring adds adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. The automatic emergency braking-equipped version was named a Top Safety Pick+ by IIHS.
• Infotainment: MazdaConnect uses a 7-inch screen controlled by a rotary dial, and the screen becomes a touchscreen when the vehicle is in Park. It does not offer Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
• Fuel efficiency: The FWD model gets 24 mpg city, 31 highway, and 27 combined, while AWD versions return 23 city, 30 highway, and 26 combined.

Which 2017 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2017 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 3 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the value play if you want the CX-5’s core strengths at the lowest entry price. You still get key convenience and safety basics like a reversing camera, keyless entry, push-button start, dual USB ports, and MazdaConnect, so it covers the essentials well.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the comfort and convenience upgrades many buyers will notice every day, including heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, leatherette seating, rear USB ports, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
• Grand Touring: Choose this if you want the most upscale CX-5 experience, with leather seating, a power moonroof, a power liftgate, navigation, and the Bose audio system. It also brings the full safety suite, including adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking.

The safety-package upgrades are most complete on Grand Touring, especially if you want the automatic emergency braking system tied to the Top Safety Pick+ recognition.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mazda CX-5?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,915 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,193, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $16,016 sits slightly above last year's $15,960.

That small increase suggests the CX-5 has held its value fairly well, which is a good sign if you plan to sell later. Stable pricing also points to steady demand rather than a sharp drop-off in buyer interest. For you, that means a clean, well-kept example should remain relatively easy to move when it’s time to trade or sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2017 Mazda CX-5 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS when equipped with automatic emergency braking.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The CX-5 comes standard with front- and side-impact airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, and Smart City Brake Support, which can pre-charge the brakes and even apply them automatically at low speeds if needed. Touring adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while Grand Touring adds adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. That higher-level safety equipment is the key trim-level gap to watch for if safety is a priority.

Should I buy a 2017 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines a sporty, upscale feel with strong fuel economy and a fun-to-drive character.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $16,502, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $16,016 average.
• It pushes Mazda further toward a more premium feel while keeping the same engaging personality.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2017 is the smarter buy because it delivers the CX-5’s core strengths at a lower average price. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2018 is the better path for buyers who want the latest version of Mazda’s premium-leaning compact crossover.

How does the 2017 Mazda CX-5 compare to the 2017 Honda CR-V?

Our experts score the 2017 Mazda CX-5 7.3/10 and the 2017 Honda CR-V 8.7/10. The CX-5 is the more engaging and upscale-feeling choice, while the CR-V is the more practical and broadly appealing one. If you care most about driving enjoyment and a premium vibe, the Mazda has the edge; if you want more space and a more mainstream all-around package, the Honda is stronger.
