How much does the 2017 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 1,930 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2017 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — 4.7/5 owners rate it, and the expert rating is 7.3/10. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the stylish design, smooth ride, comfortable handling, and excellent fuel economy. The overview also frames it as a sporty, upscale compact crossover, so it fits you well if you want a practical commuter that still feels engaging and a little more premium than the average SUV. With 32.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary specifically calls out excellent reliability, and it also ties that to the CX-5’s smooth ride and fuel economy. The expert drive notes reinforce that the CX-5 is built to feel composed and confidence-inspiring, with strong driving dynamics and a well-controlled chassis. The cost-effectiveness notes also show that Mazda positioned this as a premium-leaning compact SUV, which can help ownership feel more satisfying over time.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about day-to-day satisfaction and more about finding a well-kept example with the right maintenance history.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mazda CX-5?

At 58.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with multiple owners. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the features you want are actually present on the trim you’re looking at. Because this model is often bought for its upscale feel, condition matters a lot in how satisfying it will be to own.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, power side mirrors, a reversing camera, keyless entry, push-button start, dual USB ports, MazdaConnect infotainment, and Bluetooth hands-free calling. Touring adds leatherette seating, auto-leveling headlights, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, rear USB ports, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, rear climate control vents, and Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry. Grand Touring adds 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, adaptive headlights, LED fog lights, heated side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, a power moonroof, a power rear liftgate, full leather seating, an 8-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support, navigation, auto-dimming mirrors, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a 10-speaker Bose premium stereo.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 187 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive. The fuel economy figures are 24 mpg city and 31 highway for FWD models, or 23 city and 30 highway for AWD versions.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, and Smart City Brake Support. Touring adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Grand Touring adds adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. The automatic emergency braking setup is tied to a Top Safety Pick+ result from the IIHS.
• Infotainment: MazdaConnect uses a 7-inch screen with a rotary controller, and the screen becomes a touchscreen when the vehicle is in Park. It does not offer Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
• Fuel efficiency: The CX-5 returns 24 mpg city and 31 highway in front-wheel-drive form, or 23 city and 30 highway with all-wheel drive.

Which 2017 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2017 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 3 trim levels: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the value play if you want the CX-5’s core strengths at the lowest entry price. You still get the 7-inch MazdaConnect system, a reversing camera, keyless entry, push-button start, and the same 2.5-liter engine as the higher trims.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the comfort and convenience upgrades that make the CX-5 feel more upscale, including heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, leatherette seating, rear USB ports, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
• Grand Touring: Choose this if you want the most premium version of the CX-5, with leather seating, a power moonroof, a power liftgate, navigation, and the full suite of driver-assistance features, including adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.

The safety package expands as you move up the lineup, with Touring adding blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, and Grand Touring adding adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mazda CX-5?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,930 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,192, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $15,990 sits slightly below last year's $16,122.

That small decline suggests the CX-5 has been holding value in a fairly stable way rather than swinging sharply. For you as a future seller, that usually means pricing should be predictable if your vehicle is clean, well maintained, and equipped with desirable features. The model’s strong owner satisfaction also helps support demand when it’s time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2017 Mazda CX-5 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS when equipped with automatic emergency braking.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, and Smart City Brake Support. Touring adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while Grand Touring adds adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. That means the most advanced driver-assistance features are reserved for the higher trims.

Should I buy a 2017 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 stands out for its sporty, upscale feel and strong driving dynamics.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $16,567, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $15,990 average.
• It pushes further toward premium territory with a more polished overall presentation.

The bottom line: If you want the better value and a more predictable shopping market, the 2017 is the smarter starting point. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year and a more premium-leaning feel, the 2018 is worth a look. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2017 remains the more compelling buy.

How does the 2017 Mazda CX-5 compare to the 2017 Honda CR-V?

Our experts score the 2017 Mazda CX-5 7.3/10 and the 2017 Honda CR-V 8.7/10. The CX-5 is the more engaging and upscale-feeling choice, while the CR-V is the more practical and broadly appealing option. You also get a lower average used price with the CX-5, but the CR-V offers more listings and slightly better fuel economy.
