CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Lincoln MKZ
overall

Summary
With 437 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,635, 31.1% of 2017 Lincoln MKZs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Lincoln MKZ 4.77 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
60.4% of 2017 MKZ models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Lincoln MKZ stands out as a redesigned entry-level luxury sedan that brings more power, a new engine, and an impressive list of standard equipment. Lincoln also gave it a new front end and the new Sync 3 infotainment system, which is described as a big upgrade over the outgoing version. For shoppers drawn to comfort and value, the MKZ’s appeal is clear: it aims to offer a long list of features that would cost more from the competition, while also delivering the luxury feel many owners appreciate.
Its headline mechanical change is an exclusive new 3.0-liter V6 with class-leading power, and the summary points to a 400-hp engine as a major reason the car can compete more aggressively in the luxury sedan segment. At the same time, the MKZ’s long-running connection to the Ford Fusion and resistance to Lincoln’s split-wing grille have been part of its challenge in winning over loyalists from German and Japanese rivals. Some owners also note gaps in available advanced safety equipment, including adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitoring, so the MKZ’s strengths are strongest when judged as a comfort- and feature-focused luxury sedan rather than a fully loaded technology showcase.

Beautiful inside and out. Comfortable and quite ride. Tremendous power and pickup. Feather touch gas pedal and powerful V-6 sends you flying down the road. This roomy AWD sedan handles like a sports car. Lots of leg room even for passengers in the back. Navigation system with Bluetooth that lets you connect your cell for handsfree calling. Loaded with safety features with a 5-star safety rating. Blind spot detection, brake assist, lane assist, collision avoidance system, backup camera, and parking assist. Auto dim for the side and rearview mirrors. Memory for three driver seat and mirror settings.

I ended up purchasing this vehicle and it’s great. Very luxurious and fun to drive. The 3.0 V6 is worth the extra money over the 2.0 I4. Has a lot of nice features and super comfortable. Also is a great deal. I love my MKZ and love driving it

This is a beautiful car inside and out. It has every extra feature you could possibly want and more. It is a great highway road trip car, the level of comfort is superior from the heated and ventilated seats to the spaciousness provided in every zone. The ride is so smooth you dont even realize youre in a car. The power under the hood is also surprising. It may not look like it but you could keep up with or even surpass many sports cars. Also, I hit a deer and the car held up remarkably well, although I do not recommend doing so in yours should you buy one. Overall 10/10.

Is the 2017 Lincoln MKZ a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Lincoln MKZ earns a 4.77/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance and Safety.
Owners consistently praise the MKZ for its luxury feel, comfort, smooth ride, powerful performance, and strong value for the money. That lines up with the overview: you’re looking at an entry-level luxury sedan that aims to give you a long list of features, a redesigned front end, and the upgraded Sync 3 system without pushing you into a much pricier segment.
With 30.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Lincoln MKZ reliable?
Owners rate it 4.77/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable, comfortable, and easy to live with over time, especially if you value a smooth ride and a luxury experience that holds up in daily use. The expert notes also emphasize that the MKZ’s suspension is one of its strongest traits, and the cabin tech is designed to be straightforward and pleasant to use.
Lincoln also includes MyKey, which can help you monitor and limit use for a second driver. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the car was maintained properly and equipped with the features you want, since some desirable safety and convenience items were optional rather than standard.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Lincoln MKZ?
At 61% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, panel alignment, and signs of prior repair. Because this model was offered with a wide spread of equipment, you should also confirm that the specific car you’re considering has the safety and convenience features you expect. If you want the most complete ownership experience, focus on condition first and options second.
Key things to evaluate:
Trim level: The Premiere gives you front-wheel drive, an adaptive suspension, adaptive xenon headlights with LED taillights, keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear parking sensors, heated mirrors, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Sync 3. The Select adds leather upholstery, power steering-wheel adjustment, 4-way power lumbar adjustment, ambient lighting, power-folding mirrors, rear USB ports, and a 110-volt outlet. The Reserve adds the Select Plus Package content, power trunk, 19-inch alloys, and front-seat ventilation. The Reserve is the best-value choice if you want a more complete luxury setup without jumping into the most expensive extras.
Powertrain: The standard turbocharged 2.0-liter engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic and is described as smooth and fun to drive, with solid power and little turbo lag. If you want more punch, the bi-turbo 3.0-liter V6 delivers 350 hp in front-wheel-drive form and 400 hp with all-wheel drive, along with torque vectoring on the V6 setup. Fuel economy is stronger with the 2.0-liter, while the V6 trades efficiency for much stronger acceleration.
Safety package: The available driver-assistance content includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, auto-park, front sensors, and rain-sensing wipers with de-ice capability. Some of these features are bundled in packages rather than standard, so you should verify exactly what the car has before you buy.
Infotainment: Sync 3 uses an 8-inch touchscreen and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system is described as fast and intuitive, and it replaces the older setup with a more user-friendly interface. If you want the most complete tech experience, confirm whether the car has the upgraded package content you want, since some features were optional.
Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter front-wheel-drive model is rated at 24 mpg combined, 21 city, and 31 highway. All-wheel drive drops that to 23 mpg combined, 21 city, and 28 highway. The 3.0-liter V6 is rated at 21 mpg combined with front-wheel drive and 20 mpg combined with all-wheel drive. The hybrid returns 40 mpg combined, 41 city, and 38 highway.
Which 2017 Lincoln MKZ trim should I buy?
The 2017 Lincoln MKZ is offered in 4 trim levels: Premiere, Select, Reserve, and Black Label.
Here's the short version:
Premiere: This is the entry point, but it still gives you a strong equipment list, including Sync 3, an adaptive suspension, dual-zone climate control, and rear parking sensors. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and are comfortable keeping the feature set simple.
Select: This is the trim that starts to feel properly luxury-oriented, with leather upholstery, more seat and steering adjustments, ambient lighting, and extra convenience features. It’s the best-value trim if you want the MKZ’s upscale character without stretching too far.
Reserve: This is the most balanced upper trim, adding the Select Plus Package content, power trunk, 19-inch wheels, and ventilated front seats. If you want the richest everyday experience, this is the trim to target.
Black Label: This is the top-tier special edition, with upgraded leather and wood trim and theme-based customization. It’s for you if you want the most exclusive presentation and are willing to pay for it.
The safety-package content is strongest once you move beyond the base setup, since blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise, lane-keep assist, and related features are tied to higher trims or packages.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Lincoln MKZ?
The market looks moderate and selective, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 428 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.00% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 61.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,796, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Lincoln MKZ's resale value?
The current average of $13,607 sits slightly below last year's $13,885.
That modest decline suggests the MKZ has softened a bit in the market, which can work against a future seller if you buy at the wrong price. On the other hand, the current range is still relatively tight, which can help support value if you choose a well-equipped, clean example. Cars with strong owner satisfaction tend to stay easier to move later, especially when they offer the comfort and feature content shoppers expect in this segment.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.77/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Lincoln MKZ safe?
The 2017 Lincoln MKZ earns five-star overall safety ratings from both NHTSA and IIHS, though both organizations gave it second-best scores in frontal-impact protection and small-overlap frontal-offset testing.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The MKZ can be equipped with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, auto-park, front sensors, and rain-sensing wipers with de-ice capability. It also offers inflatable rear seatbelts for added protection and includes MyKey for monitoring and limiting use for a second driver.
The caveat is that some of the most useful driver-assistance features are not standard across the lineup, so you should verify the exact equipment on any used example you’re considering.
Should I buy a 2017 Lincoln MKZ or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.00% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.77/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It brings the redesigned front end, the new Sync 3 system, and the available 400-hp V6, which are the standout year-specific upgrades.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, comfort, and feature content, the 2017 is the right place to focus. If your priority is simply the lowest possible purchase price, you may want to compare nearby years and shop for the cleanest, best-equipped example rather than chasing the newest badge alone.
