Summary
With 63 currently listed for sale and an average price of $26,648, 46.0% of 2017 Lexus GX listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Lexus GX 5 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2017 Lexus GX stands out as a luxury SUV that still leans hard into off-road capability. By this point in its second generation, it had already picked up a number of useful updates, including a blind-spot monitor as standard equipment and a 2017 Sport Design package that added a different grille, wheels, and some chrome trim. It also offered second-row captain’s chairs on all but the base model, which gave buyers a little more flexibility in how they configured the cabin.
What makes the 2017 GX appealing is the way it blends rugged hardware with a premium interior and a strong reputation for durability. It came with a 4.6-liter V8 rated at 301 hp and 329 lb-ft of torque, plus a standard crawl control system that helped at low speeds off-road. The GX also offered standard KDSS, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and available features such as adaptive cruise control, frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, a dual-screen rear entertainment system, and Mark Levinson premium audio. Fuel economy was modest at an EPA-estimated 15/18 mpg city/highway, and the model’s age showed in some areas, but for buyers who wanted a capable, upscale SUV with real trail credentials, the 2017 GX had a clear identity.

Smoothest SUV Ive ever driven. Its a bit heavy bc of the v8 and build quality, but doesnt feel as heavy as a bmw, gmc, or ford medium/large suv. Maybe the tightest build Ive ever felt of any vehicle. Everything clicks, opens, or closes exactly how it should. Its like the feeling of haptic feedback on a smart phone. It just feels like the right response. Personally, I prefer body on frame (truck) suvs. It feels better than our mid sized crossover suv. Gas is not the greatest, but its not the worst either (I used to drive big v8 fords and gm trucks). I appreciate the size bc there is minimum body roll and its just spacious enough. Its such a comfortable drive that I actually like getting stuck in traffic, which is also why I would never mod this vehicle and just keep it stock. Its pristine. A lot of people complain about the navigation system bc of the lack of carplay, but I may be one of the few ppl that found carplay annoying. Id rather have this system. This is a premium ride thats well built, dependable, smooth, and so comfortable. Highly recommended.

Love this GX460 model over the LX570, which is an awesome vehicle, for a few reasons. 3rd row seating is better for tucking away. Didnt need the passenger row seating video screens. The 570 feels stout as a tank but the 460 feels like a more manageable vehicle in parking lots. Both are supreme and super quiet however. And the clincher for my choice was the 460 aftermarket kit is a aila le for camping in, as well as the frosting on the dessert is the Mark Levinson sound system on this Luxury model. Engine takes 8 quarts of oil! Bullet proof lubrication. Transmission shifts beautifully. Any money saved on many better mpg vehicles is lost with maintenance and repair costs. Love this vehicle!

Yes — the 2017 Lexus GX earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to very strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its luxury feel, off-road capability, spaciousness, comfortable and smooth ride, and reliable, robust nature. For you, that means it fits especially well if you want a premium SUV that can handle rougher terrain without giving up everyday comfort. With 37.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is also a meaningful amount of market value to consider while you shop.
Is the 2017 Lexus GX reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owners describe it as reliable and robust, and they also highlight its trouble-free, dependable character in everyday use. That kind of feedback matters if you plan to keep the SUV for years, because it suggests the GX can be a confident long-term ownership choice for used buyers who prioritize durability.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Lexus GX?
At 57.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report first so you can separate clean examples from ones with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially for signs of uneven wear, repair quality, and any issues that could affect long-term condition. Because this model is often bought for its durability and capability, you’ll want to focus on maintenance records and overall mechanical health as much as cosmetic appearance.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Lexus GX?
This is a selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully and compare listings before moving quickly.
- Deal availability: 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 499 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.81% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 57.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $25,809, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Lexus GX's resale value?
The current average of $26,511 sits slightly below last year's $27,276.
That price movement suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also mean future resale gains are likely to be gradual rather than dramatic. If you’re planning to sell later, the GX’s current pricing trend points to steady demand rather than a sharp appreciation story. Its strong owner satisfaction should help support interest from used buyers when it’s your turn to list it.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Lexus GX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.81% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line:
If you want the strongest mix of value, owner satisfaction, and current market availability, the 2017 is the one to focus on first. It gives you a favorable price trend and enough listings to shop selectively, while still delivering the rugged, upscale character that defines the GX. If your top priority is stretching your budget, you can also compare nearby years, but the 2017 looks like the better starting point for most buyers.
