Is the 2017 Kia Optima reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to dependable everyday use, with praise for the car’s comfort, fuel economy, and overall satisfaction over time. At the same time, some drivers mention oil consumption and maintenance concerns, so you should treat service records as especially important when evaluating a used example. For long-term ownership, the main risk is buying a car with incomplete maintenance history or signs of deferred care.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Kia Optima?

At 49.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any reported damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on maintenance records, signs of oil-related issues, and overall mechanical condition. Because this model year has a mixed ownership record, condition and documentation matter more than mileage alone.

If you find a listing below $9,433, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Kia Optima's resale value?

The current average of $9,433 sits slightly below last year's $10,177.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend heavily on how well the car is maintained and presented. A clean history and strong service records should matter more if you want to protect value later.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Kia Optima or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 49.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.31% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $9,344, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $9,433 average.
• It emphasizes a polished redesign with strong styling, safety, and infotainment.

The bottom line: You should start with the 2017 if you want the stronger current-market value and a broad pool of listings to compare. If your priority is saving a little more upfront, the 2016 is the better secondary path.
