Used 2017 Kia Niro for Sale nearColumbia, SC

How much does the 2017 Kia Niro cost?

Prices have softened 4.65% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 120 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2017 Kia Niro a good car?

Generally — the 2017 Kia Niro earns 4/5 from users and 6.8/10 from expert testing. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Technology.

The Niro is aimed at you if you want hybrid efficiency without giving up comfort or practicality. Its crossover-like styling helps it stand apart from the usual hybrid look, and the overview highlights a comfortable interior and spacious rear seat as key strengths. Expert testing also points to a quiet highway ride, well-placed controls, and a cabin that feels well assembled.

At the same time, the same testing notes that Kia made compromises in fuel economy and practicality to broaden the Niro’s appeal. 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Kia Niro reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Niro’s reliability case is helped by its straightforward hybrid setup and the expert notes that the gas engine and electric motor work together smoothly rather than feeling like dueling powerplants. The transmission is described as quieter than a Prius’ CVT, and the brake feel is more predictable and smooth than on some other hybrids.

Kia’s Uvo system can also tell you when scheduled maintenance is due and help you set up an appointment, which adds a useful ownership convenience. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the hybrid system, brakes, and overall condition have been maintained properly, since repair costs can matter more once warranty coverage is behind you.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Kia Niro?

At 60% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or shows uneven panel gaps, tire wear, or warning lights. Because this model is a hybrid crossover, you should also focus on how the drivetrain feels in normal driving and whether the cabin electronics and safety equipment work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The FE, LX, EX, and Touring trims differ meaningfully in equipment. The entry-level FE is the least lavishly appointed, while the Touring trim adds leather seats and a quieter, better-equipped cabin. If you want the best value, the LX and EX are the trims to compare closely because they add useful everyday features without jumping all the way to Touring pricing.
• Powertrain: The Niro uses a 104-hp 1.6-liter gasoline engine, a 43-hp electric motor, and a 1.56kWh lithium-ion polymer battery, paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The hybrid system is tuned for smooth transitions, brisk initial acceleration, and predictable brake feel.
• Safety package: Blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the EX and Touring, but not available on the FE or LX. Automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and smart cruise control are optional on the LX, EX, and Touring, but not available at all on the FE.
• Infotainment: The Niro comes with a standard 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Uvo telematics. Touring trim upgrades to an 8-inch touchscreen with navigation and a premium 8-speaker sound system with subwoofer.
• Fuel efficiency: The source says the Niro promises up to 50 mpg combined, and the expert testing notes that the car’s efficiency is a major part of its appeal. It also says the Niro’s extra 7 mpg would take a very long time to offset the price gap versus a cheaper rival in one comparison.

Which 2017 Kia Niro trim should I buy?

The 2017 Kia Niro is offered in 4 trim levels: FE, LX, EX, Touring.

Here's the short version:

• FE: This is the simplest version, but it still gives you the Niro’s core hybrid appeal plus standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 7-inch touchscreen, and Uvo. Choose it if you want the lowest entry price and can live without the extra safety and convenience features found higher up.
• LX: This is the trim to focus on if you want the best balance of price and equipment. It adds pushbutton start with a smart key, and it can be optioned with safety tech that the FE cannot get. For many shoppers, this is the best-value trim.
• EX: This trim adds heated front seats and outside mirrors, plus standard blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert. It makes the Niro feel more complete if you want more comfort and safety without going all the way to Touring.
• Touring: This is the most upscale version, with leather seats, an 8-inch touchscreen with navigation, and a premium 8-speaker sound system with subwoofer. It suits you if you want the most comfort and the richest feature set.

Blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the EX and Touring, but not available on the FE or LX.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Kia Niro?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 120 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.65% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,060, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Kia Niro's resale value?

The current average of $10,266 sits slightly below last year's $10,767.

That decline suggests the market has softened, which can make the Niro easier to buy now but less favorable if you are thinking about selling soon. If you own one, pricing it competitively will matter, especially because shoppers in this segment have other efficiency-focused options to compare against.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Kia Niro safe?

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The Niro has not yet been rated by the IIHS or NHTSA.

The safety story is mixed because several important driver-assistance features are not standard across the lineup. Blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert is standard only on the EX and Touring, while automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and smart cruise control are optional on the LX, EX, and Touring, but not available on the FE. The lack of AWD is also a limitation for some shoppers, especially if you live where winter traction matters.

Should I buy a 2017 Kia Niro or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.65% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• Expert testing says the Niro is about more than fuel economy, with a comfortable interior, spacious rear seat, and crossover-like styling.

The bottom line: The 2017 Niro makes sense if you want a comfortable, efficient hybrid crossover and you’re willing to shop carefully for condition and equipment. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the softer market and decent deal share make this a good year to target; if you want more safety tech and a more developed package, a newer model year may be worth considering.
