Is the 2017 Jaguar XE a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Jaguar XE earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 6.7/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance and Safety.

You’re looking at a compact luxury sedan that stands out for its sporty performance, striking looks, and upscale feel. The overview frames it as a car for shoppers who want a sport-sedan personality in a relatively affordable segment, and the user feedback reinforces that with praise for its comfortable, fun driving experience, strong acceleration, and smooth handling.

The market also shows 30.1% of listings priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2017 Jaguar XE reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a car that many drivers find dependable in daily use, with recurring praise for its comfortable, fun driving experience and strong overall appeal. The expert notes also emphasize that the XE is a competent sport sedan with a solid chassis and a premium feel, which supports confidence in how it should hold up over time.

Jaguar’s included scheduled maintenance coverage in the warranty is a useful ownership perk, especially if you want some early cost protection.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the core driving experience and more about making sure the specific car you choose has been maintained properly and doesn’t have unresolved electronics or condition issues.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Jaguar XE?

At 69.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or shows signs of uneven wear. Focus on overall condition, because this model’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been kept up. Pay close attention to electronics, visibility, and cabin usability, since those are the kinds of issues that can affect day-to-day satisfaction.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base version is the most stripped-down, while higher trims add more equipment and a more upscale feel. The top R-Sport trim stands out because it includes standard driver-assistance features that are optional on other trims.
• Powertrain: You can find a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 240 horsepower or a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 with 340 hp, and the diesel version is described as especially efficient for long highway drives.
• Safety package: The available driver-assistance suite includes forward-collision alert, auto-braking, lane-keep assist, and a driver fatigue alert, with blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, 360-degree cameras, and automatic parking also available.
• Infotainment: The 10.2-inch screen supports touch and swiping gestures, but the system is known for software glitches, and the navigation and backup-camera behavior deserve close attention during a test drive.
• Fuel efficiency: The diesel version is described as returning 43 mpg over a long trip and reaching 55 mpg on some highway stretches, while gas models are listed at 21/30 mpg for the rear-wheel-drive four-cylinder and V6.

Which 2017 Jaguar XE trim should I buy?

The 2017 Jaguar XE is offered in 4 trim levels: base, Premium, Prestige, and R-Sport.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point, so it makes the most sense if you want the XE’s styling and driving character at the lowest starting cost, but you should expect the fewest features.
• Premium: This is the trim to target if you want a better balance of equipment and value without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• Prestige: This trim leans more upscale and is the best-value choice if you want a richer feel and more comfort-oriented equipment.
• R-Sport: This is the one to choose if you want the most complete safety package, since forward-collision alert, auto-braking, lane-keep assist, and a driver fatigue alert are standard here.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Jaguar XE?

The market looks moderately favorable if you’re a selective buyer.

• Deal availability: 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 136 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.23% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 69.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,850, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Jaguar XE's resale value?

The current average of $12,205 sits slightly below last year's $12,744.

That decline suggests the market has softened, which can work against you if you’re selling soon. If you plan to own the car for a while, the current pricing may help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car has been maintained.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Jaguar XE safe?

The XE has not been rated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The available driver-assistance suite includes forward-collision alert, auto-braking, lane-keep assist, and a driver fatigue alert, with blind-spot monitoring also available. Adaptive cruise control, 360-degree cameras, and automatic parking are also offered as options. The top R-Sport trim gets the standard safety package, while those features are optional on other trims.

Should I buy a 2017 Jaguar XE or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.23% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 XE is positioned as Jaguar’s effort to rebuild its image in a highly competitive compact luxury sedan segment.

The bottom line: If you want the XE’s styling, sporty feel, and current market softness, the 2017 is a reasonable buy to pursue now. If you’re especially price-sensitive, focus on the best-maintained examples and be selective about history and condition so you don’t trade a lower purchase price for higher ownership risk.
