Is the 2017 Honda HR-V a good car?

Generally — the 4.4/5 user rating points to a well-liked used crossover. Owners commonly praise its smooth driving experience, value for money, and useful features like the touch screen controls, heated seats, and sunroof. The HR-V’s practical, city-friendly footprint and versatile interior make it a strong fit if you want everyday usability and cargo flexibility without moving up to a larger SUV. Is the 2017 Honda HR-V reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback also points to reliability concerns, especially around transmission issues, even as many owners describe the HR-V as dependable and trouble-free in everyday use. That mix suggests you should focus on maintenance history and how the vehicle has been driven, because long-term ownership risk is more about individual condition than the model’s overall reputation.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Honda HR-V?

At 55.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on the transmission, since owner feedback mentions related concerns, and pay close attention to how the car drives, shifts, and feels under acceleration. Condition matters a lot here, so look closely at maintenance records, interior wear, and any signs of past bodywork.

What is the 2017 Honda HR-V's resale value?

The current average of $14,509 sits slightly below last year's $14,569.

That small decline suggests the HR-V has been holding value fairly consistently rather than swinging sharply with the market. For a future seller, that kind of stability is helpful because it reduces the risk of a steep drop if you own the car for a few years. Strong demand for practical, value-oriented crossovers can also help keep resale interest steady.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Honda HR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $13,523, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $14,509 average.
• It offers a value-focused take with strong everyday usability and good owner satisfaction.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $15,737, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $14,509 average.
• It adds a more refined cabin and broader family-friendly versatility.

The bottom line: The 2017 is the best primary path if you want a balanced mix of price, practicality, and owner satisfaction. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2016 is the better value play, while the 2018 makes sense if you want to spend more for a slightly more polished experience.
