Is the 2017 Genesis G90 a good car?

Yes — the 4.86/5 user rating and 8/10 expert rating both point to a strong overall showing. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10. Owners consistently praise its powerful performance, exceptional comfort, advanced technology, roomy interior, and safety features, and the overview frames it as a full-size luxury sedan that delivers a lot of substance without the traditional badge premium. That value-first positioning is a big part of the appeal if you want a large luxury car for long trips and don’t need the prestige markup. With 29.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still meaningful market opportunity.

Is the 2017 Genesis G90 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.86/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The user feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with drivers highlighting comfort, advanced technology, and safety in a way that suggests they feel confident living with the car over time. The expert review reinforces that sense of durability by describing the G90 as a refined, competent luxury sedan that soaks up road imperfections and is built for long-distance comfort. The cost-effectiveness notes also emphasize that it delivers luxury without the usual price premium, which can help reduce the stress of ownership if you’re shopping used. For a used buyer, the main long-term risk is less about the core formula and more about making sure the specific car has been maintained well and hasn’t accumulated hidden wear.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Genesis G90?

At 60.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important. You should start with a vehicle history report, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks for prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, and any signs of repair quality issues. Because this is a luxury sedan with a lot of equipment, you should also focus on whether the comfort, tech, and safety features all work as intended.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Premium trim includes leather seating and dash, wood trim accents, a 22-way power driver’s seat, a 16-way power front passenger seat, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a 7-inch color instrument panel trip computer, a 12.3-inch center navigation/infotainment screen, three-zone automatic climate control, a power rear trunk with hands-free function, auto-close doors, a head-up display, and a Lexicon 17-speaker premium audio system. The Ultimate adds ventilated rear seats, power reclining rear seats, dual rear touchscreens, rear-seat illuminated vanity mirrors, and two extra cylinders under the hood.
• Powertrain: The G90 offers a 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 with 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque, or a 5.0-liter V8 with 425 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. Both use an 8-speed transmission, and rear-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive are offered. The V6 is the efficiency-minded choice, while the V8 is the stronger luxury-cruiser setup.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes 9 airbags, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic cruise control, and driver-attention alerts. The standard suite is broad, but you should confirm every system works properly on the specific car you’re considering.
• Infotainment: The G90 uses a 12.3-inch center navigation/infotainment screen, plus a rotary controller instead of a touchscreen. It also includes a comprehensive voice-control system, Home and Back buttons, and a surround-view camera that activates in reverse.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 is rated at 17 mpg city, 24 highway, and 20 combined. In testing, the Premium V6 returned 19.3 mpg.

Which 2017 Genesis G90 trim should I buy?

The 2017 Genesis G90 is offered in 2 trim levels: Premium and Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Premium: This is the best-value choice if you want the core G90 experience without paying for the top trim. It brings the 12.3-inch infotainment screen, head-up display, Lexicon audio, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, auto-close doors, and the full standard safety suite, so you get most of the luxury and tech that define the car.
• Ultimate: Choose this if you want the most rear-seat comfort and the V8 powertrain. It adds ventilated rear seats, power reclining rear seats, dual rear touchscreens, and rear-seat illuminated vanity mirrors, making it the better pick if you care most about back-seat luxury.

The standard safety package is already extensive, so the Premium is the best-value trim for most shoppers unless you specifically want the Ultimate’s rear-seat upgrades and V8.

Is the 2017 Genesis G90 safe?

The G90 earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts. It comes standard with 9 airbags, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic cruise control, and driver-attention alerts. That combination gives you a very complete standard safety package for the class, and the expert review also highlights how the lane-keeping assist and cruise control work together to reduce fatigue on the highway. The main thing to verify on a used example is that all of those driver-assistance systems are functioning properly, since the car’s safety advantage depends on them working as intended.

Should I buy a 2017 Genesis G90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Owners rate it 4.86/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 G90 delivered the large-luxury formula for $30,000 less than the base price of a Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

The bottom line: If you want the original G90 formula at the lowest entry point, the 2017 is a smart used buy because it delivers a lot of luxury, comfort, and safety for the money. If you’re shopping more selectively, focus on condition and history first, then choose the trim that gives you the features you’ll actually use; price-sensitive buyers should lean toward the Premium, while rear-seat-focused shoppers may prefer the Ultimate.
