How much does the 2017 Ford Transit Cargo cost?

Prices have softened 5.40% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,231 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2017 Ford Transit Cargo a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Ford Transit Cargo earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 8/10.

It’s a work-focused van that still adds useful comfort and convenience touches, and Ford positions it as the EconoLine replacement, which helps explain its more modern take on the cargo-van formula. The overview also points to standard LED cargo lighting for van configurations, standard 3.7-liter V6 power for dualies, and available features like heated seats and power-retractable running boards.

26.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so you still have room to shop carefully.

Is the 2017 Ford Transit Cargo reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Transit’s appeal is rooted in its easy driving, smooth riding, and relative gas sipping for a full-size van, and the expert review also describes it as a practical blend of affordability, drivability, and versatility. Its performance notes point to a lineup that includes a 3.7-liter V6, a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, and a 3.2-liter turbodiesel, giving you flexibility depending on how you plan to use it.

If you’re buying used, the biggest long-term risk is that a commercial-style van may have seen hard service, so condition and maintenance history matter more than mileage alone.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford Transit Cargo?

At 63.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of body panels, cargo-area wear, and any signs of heavy-duty use. Because this is a large work van, you’ll also want to focus on how well the drivetrain, brakes, and steering have held up under load.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Transit is offered as a van, a chassis cab, or a cutaway, with 130- and 148-inch wheelbase lengths and 56.9-, 72-, and 81.5-inch roof heights. The base setup is the short wheelbase and roof with the 3.7-liter V6, while higher-spec combinations add the long wheelbase, highest roof, and the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6.
• Powertrain: You can shop a 3.7-liter V6 with 275 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 with 310 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque, or a 3.2-liter turbodiesel inline 5-cylinder with 185 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. The turbodiesel is the efficiency leader, while the EcoBoost is the strongest tow-and-haul choice.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes airbags plus traction and stability control, and you get a standard reversing camera. Rear parking sensors, a reverse warning beep, and a lane-departure warning system with driver alert are available, while blind-spot monitoring is not.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 is available, navigation can be added, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included on all 2017 models. The system is functional and intuitive, even if it isn’t especially attractive.
• Fuel efficiency: The 3.7-liter V6 is EPA-estimated at 16 mpg combined, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 is also rated at 16 mpg combined, and the 3.2-liter turbodiesel returns 21 mpg combined.

Which 2017 Ford Transit Cargo trim should I buy?

The 2017 Ford Transit Cargo is offered in 3 trim levels: van, chassis cab, and cutaway.

Here's the short version:

• van: This is the most straightforward choice if you want the Transit in its core cargo-hauling form. It’s the best fit if you want the standard work-van setup with the broadest mix of wheelbase, roof, and engine choices.
• chassis cab: Choose this if you need a foundation for a custom upfit rather than a finished cargo van. It makes the most sense when your job calls for specialized equipment or a body conversion.
• cutaway: This is the right pick if you’re building toward a commercial application that needs a separate rear body. It’s the most specialized path in the lineup and best for buyers who already know their upfit needs.

The safety content also notes that a reversing camera is standard, while rear parking sensors, a reverse warning beep, and lane-departure warning with driver alert are available, and blind-spot monitoring is not.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Ford Transit Cargo?

This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 26.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,231 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.40% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 63.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,531, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Ford Transit Cargo's resale value?

The current average of $16,584 sits slightly below last year's $17,530.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, the softer pricing means resale gains may be limited unless the van is especially clean, well maintained, and lightly used.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Ford Transit Cargo safe?

The 2017 Ford Transit Cargo earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes airbags, traction and stability control, and a reversing camera. You can add rear parking sensors, a reverse warning beep, and a lane-departure warning system with driver alert, but blind-spot monitoring is not available. The expert review also flags the Transit’s huge blind-spot challenge, especially given its size and high-roof configurations.

Should I buy a 2017 Ford Transit Cargo or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 26.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 63.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.40% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• For 2017, the Transit brings standard LED cargo lighting for van configurations, standard 3.7-liter V6 power for dualies, and an upgraded stereo with 4 speakers, a tweeter, and a subwoofer.

The bottom line: If you want a used full-size cargo van with a modernized feature set and a market that has already softened, the 2017 is the sensible pick. If you’re especially price-sensitive, focus on the cleanest, best-documented example you can find rather than chasing the lowest sticker alone.
