Why it stands out
The 2017 Ford Taurus stands out as a full-size sedan that still offered a broad range of personalities near the end of its run. It could be had with a standard 3.5-liter V6, and the 2.0-liter turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder remained available through the 2017 model year for buyers who wanted the best fuel economy of any Taurus at the time, with EPA ratings of 22 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. The Taurus SHO also remained part of the lineup, using a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 with 365 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque sent to all four wheels. That combination made the SHO the most powerful and quickest Taurus SHO in the model’s history.
For 2017, the Taurus still benefited from the 2013 refresh, which brought a new grille and front fascia, an updated suspension, the latest version of Ford’s Sync and MyFordTouch infotainment software, and improved front seats. The Taurus SE was well equipped with 17-inch wheels, automatic headlamps, a keypad for entry, a power driver’s seat, and a six-speaker audio system, while the SEL added 18-inch wheels, smarter interior upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and Sync. Buyers looking for more luxury could step up to the Limited, which was described as basically loaded and could be optioned with blind-spot warning with cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and collision warning with brake support.
At the same time, the Taurus had clear drawbacks by this point. The buying guide describes late-model Taurus cars as pretty boring, and the pros and cons section calls out pedestrian performance from non-SHO models and outdated technology. That makes the 2017 Taurus appealing mainly to shoppers who want a spacious, reliable full-size sedan with available all-wheel drive, a strong SHO performance variant, and a long list of features rather than the newest or most exciting design in the segment.

I would say although it’s a good price but it’s a car that has bad reputation for bad coolant systems so I’m weary of that.

This Taurus SHO drives incredible with the 365 hp and 350 torque biturbo engine. You could say that a Ford Expedition handles comfortably, compare it to the sporty fury of a Ford Mustang. No matter how close or far you drive, its comfort is incredible.

Prices have softened 5.55% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 512 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $11,194.95, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Ford Taurus a good car?
Generally — the 2017 Ford Taurus earns a 4.4/5 user rating, which points to solid owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its comfort, style, and strong performance, especially in the SHO model, while also noting the roomy, full-size-sedan feel that makes it appealing if you want space and a traditional driving experience. The main tradeoffs are the cramped interior complaints and awkward touchscreen controls, so it fits you best if you value comfort and performance more than cutting-edge tech. With 26.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Ford Taurus reliable?
Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary points to a car that many drivers find dependable and trouble-free enough to recommend, with comfort and performance standing out over the long haul. At the same time, the mention of potential coolant issues means you should pay close attention to maintenance history and cooling-system condition before you buy.
For used buyers, the long-term ownership risk is manageable if the car has been maintained well, but it rises quickly if service records are thin or warning signs show up during inspection.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford Taurus?
At 59.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report on every candidate and prioritize cars with clean records and consistent maintenance documentation. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and any evidence of cooling-system concerns. Because this model’s appeal depends heavily on comfort and performance, you should also make sure the cabin, electronics, and drivetrain feel as expected during a thorough test drive.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Ford Taurus?
This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep buyer’s market.
- Deal availability: 26.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 512 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.55% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 59.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,194.95, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Ford Taurus's resale value?
The current average of $11,346 sits slightly below last year's $12,013.
That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help if you buy now and later resell from a lower entry point. For a future seller, the key is to buy a well-kept example so you have less value loss left to absorb over time. Strong condition and clean history matter more here because shoppers in this segment tend to compare value closely.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Ford Taurus or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 26.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 59.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.55% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: You should focus on the 2017 if you want a full-size sedan with comfort, space, and a value-friendly price trend, especially if you can find a clean, well-maintained example. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby model year may be worth comparing, but the 2017 remains the better target when you want a balance of owner satisfaction and current market softness.
