CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Ford Mustang
overall

Summary
With 158 currently listed for sale near Seattle, WA and an average price of $27,564.00, 19.0% of 2017 Ford Mustangs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Ford Mustang 4.42 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2017 Ford Mustang stands out as a classic rear-wheel-drive pony car that still offers coupe and convertible body styles, giving buyers a familiar formula with broad appeal. It sits within the sixth generation, which was introduced for the 2015 model year and brought a sleeker, smoother design, a new independent rear suspension, and Ford’s EcoBoost engine lineup. That combination helps explain why the Mustang remains such a distinctive choice: it blends heritage, everyday usability, and a more modern chassis than earlier versions.
For 2017, the Mustang’s appeal comes from its range of engines and transmissions. The EcoBoost turbocharged 2.3-liter inline four-cylinder powers base Mustangs, while other available engines include a 3.7-liter V6, the 5.0-liter Coyote V8, and two versions of the 5.2-liter V8. Depending on the engine, buyers could choose from two six-speed manuals, six- and 10-speed automatics, and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. That breadth makes the car easy to tailor to different priorities, whether the goal is accessible performance or a more serious muscle-car experience.
There are also a few cautions to keep in mind. Models with the EcoBoost engine are known for problems with oil consumption and potential head gasket failure, and the transmission may be prone to slippage. Even so, the 2017 Mustang remains attractive because it delivers the Mustang formula in a relatively modern package, with strong performance potential and enough variety to suit a wide range of shoppers.

Car had nice features and low mileage. The color and wheels weren't my favorite, but that's a personal preference. The price seemed a bit high (I see now they just increased it!), but a nice car overall.

The blower motor needs replacing. The check engine light was on. Felt like it was misfiring when you punch it. Last oil change sticker read last year. Afraid of deeper engine issues.

How much does the 2017 Ford Mustang cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $21,633 |
| Year-Round Low | $20,065.15 |
| Year-Round High | $22,438.12 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $22,266 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −2.84% |
Prices have softened 2.84% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,838 listings available, which suggests you have room to compare prices and condition.
If you find a listing below $20,065.15, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Ford Mustang a good car?
Generally — the 4.42/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise the Mustang’s powerful performance, fun driving experience, and stylish design, and many also like the range of engine choices that lets you tailor the car to your priorities. The 2017 model also fits a familiar coupe-or-convertible formula, so you get a sporty package with broad appeal and everyday usability. With 26.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a meaningful chance to find a competitive offer if you shop carefully.
Is the 2017 Ford Mustang reliable?
Owners rate it 4.42/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a car that many drivers enjoy living with over time, especially when it comes to performance and overall driving enjoyment. That said, reliability-minded shoppers should pay close attention to maintenance history and how the car has been used, since long-term ownership risk can rise quickly if prior care was inconsistent.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford Mustang?
At 57.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection from a trusted mechanic. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the car has been maintained consistently, since those details matter more when a sizable portion of the market has accident history.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Ford Mustang?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.
- Deal availability: 26.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,838 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.84% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 57.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $20,065.15, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Ford Mustang's resale value?
The current average of $21,633 sits slightly below last year's $22,266.
That softer pricing can help you buy more carefully now, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited unless you choose a well-kept example. A clean history, strong condition, and desirable configuration should matter more if you want to protect value later. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.42/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 26.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.84% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.42/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $19,792, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $21,633 average.
- It blends heritage touches with fresh packages and a more special-feeling lineup.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $22,439, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $21,633 average.
- It feels more polished and capable, with stronger performance and a more refined overall package.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, owner satisfaction, and market availability, the 2017 is the primary path to consider. If your budget is tighter, the 2016 is the better secondary path because it undercuts the current-year average while still delivering the Mustang formula.
