CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Ford Expedition

Summary
With 133 currently listed for sale near Macon, GA and an average price of $14,720, 35.3% of 2017 Ford Expeditions for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Ford Expedition 4.29 / 5 stars.
67.7% of 2017 Expedition models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Ford Expedition stands out as a full-size SUV that leans hard into family-hauling practicality. It offers a third row of seats, plenty of passenger space, and a smooth ride thanks to its independent rear suspension, and the buying guide also notes adjustable pedals as a feature you can get on the modern Expedition. Like the Ford F-150, it shares styling cues and technology with Ford’s full-size truck, and it comes with rear-wheel drive as standard while four-wheel drive is available.
It also has the kind of utility buyers expect from a large SUV. The Expedition is offered in standard and extended-wheelbase form, and the longer version frees up passenger and cargo space. The buying guide says this generation kept pace with modern technology, adding features such as satellite radio, navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 360-degree cameras, and hands-free driving capabilities. At the same time, it is not trying to be a luxury SUV, even though top-trim models can include amenities like a Bang & Olufsen sound system, a 15.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, massaging seats, and special leather seating surfaces.
There are tradeoffs, though. The pros and cons call out lots of interior space, a strong powertrain, and comfortable seats, but also note that it can be loud on the highway and tough to drive in tight spaces. Owner feedback lines up with that overall picture, with praise for its spaciousness, comfort, smooth ride, and value for money, alongside some complaints about interior materials and minor defects.

Fantastic deal and love the Expeditions. It is the base model but being the EL makes up for it. Plenty of space so traveling will give plenty of elbow room.

I LOVE my car!! It rides so smooth, there are a ton of bells and whistles for the price that I paid for it, and the third row is so large that myself and my SIL climbed in the back and sat comfortably. I know I got a great deal!!

Is the 2017 Ford Expedition a good car?
Generally — the 2017 Ford Expedition earns a 4.29/5 user rating, which points to solid owner satisfaction. Owners repeatedly praise its value for money, spaciousness, comfort, and smooth ride, and the overview reinforces that it is aimed at family-hauling practicality with plenty of passenger space. That makes it a strong fit if you want a full-size SUV that prioritizes room and everyday usability over luxury polish. With 32.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Ford Expedition reliable?
Owners rate it 4.29/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback highlights a dependable ownership experience centered on comfort, value, and a trouble-free-feeling driving experience for many shoppers. It also points to the Expedition as a strong contender in its class, which supports the idea that it can be a vehicle you count on over time. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about broad dissatisfaction and more about finding a well-kept example that avoids minor defects and wear-related issues.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford Expedition?
At 67.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from those with prior damage. After that, put a pre-purchase inspection at the top of your list, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage or lower-priced listing. Focus on overall condition, interior wear, and any signs of past repairs, since owner feedback mentions minor defects and interior-material concerns.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Ford Expedition?
This looks like a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,370 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.75% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 67.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,275, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Ford Expedition's resale value?
The current average of $14,322 sits slightly below last year's $15,035.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can make the vehicle easier to buy now but may also limit short-term appreciation for a future seller. If you plan to resell later, the current trend implies you should expect value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and maintenance history. Well-kept examples should hold up better than average because shoppers still respond to the Expedition’s space, comfort, and family-friendly utility.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.29/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Ford Expedition or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 67.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.75% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.29/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $19,947, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $14,322 average.
- It brings a full redesign with more room, greater comfort, and significantly more cargo and towing capability.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2017 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the core Expedition strengths. If you can stretch for a newer model and want the redesign benefits, the 2018 is the stronger upgrade path for buyers who prioritize space and capability over price.
