Is the 2017 Ford Expedition reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to a dependable ownership experience, with praise centered on value, comfort, and the overall package. Some reviews mention minor defects and interior-material concerns, but the broader pattern suggests the Expedition can be a trouble-free choice when you buy a well-kept example. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is ending up with a neglected SUV that has accumulated wear from family use and higher-mileage ownership.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford Expedition?

At 66.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on body condition, signs of uneven wear, and any evidence of past collision work. Because this model is often used as a family hauler, pay close attention to interior condition, seat wear, and how well the vehicle has been maintained overall.

What is the 2017 Ford Expedition's resale value?

The current average of $14,049 sits slightly below last year's $14,742.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become more favorable for buyers, but it can also mean future sellers may need to price competitively to move a used Expedition. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned to preserve value when it is time to sell. Demand should remain supported by the model’s strong owner satisfaction and practical three-row appeal.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Ford Expedition or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.70% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $19,206, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $14,049 average.
• It brings a complete redesign with more room, more comfort, and greater towing capability.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2017 if you want a lower entry price and a strong value proposition in a full-size SUV. If you can stretch your budget and want the newer redesign’s added room and capability, the 2018 is the better upgrade path; otherwise, the 2017 is the smarter buy for price-sensitive shoppers.
