The Edge is equipped with a variety of engine options, including a robust 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 in the Sport trim, which delivers an impressive 315 horsepower. I never had a problem with my 2017 Edge. At 65000 miles I got a notice from Ford that due to engine problems they needed to replace engine. Brought it in when they got the engine in stock. No charge. Then got a notice about the transmission. Brought it in. No charge. Car now has 95,000 miles. No problems so far except new battery which Aaa replaced for $85. mechanic told me Ford Edge is the best car Ford makes.

This car is a great car for someone who lives in a winter climate. It has great clearance and with snow tires can easily go through a foot of snow with the all-wheel-drive model with no worries! I like that has space for my kids and my stuff. I like that it’s comfortable and it’s not too big. I like that it’s easy on gas!

| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $12,587 |
| Year-Round Low | $12,272.24 |
| Year-Round High | $13,484.49 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $13,383 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −5.95% |
Prices have softened 5.95% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,937 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $12,272.24, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Ford Edge a good car?
Generally — the 4.43/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 7.5/10. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Safety.
Drivers consistently praise the Edge for its powerful performance, spacious interior, comfort, and smooth ride. The overview also frames it as a well-rounded crossover with ample cargo room and practical storage, which makes it a strong fit for families who want space without moving up to a larger SUV. With 29.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you also have a decent chance of finding a compelling price.
Is the 2017 Ford Edge reliable?
Owners rate it 4.43/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers describe the Edge as reliable and dependable, and many say it offers a lot for the price. The expert drive notes also emphasize a composed, responsive ride and a good fit between the 6-speed automatic and the available engines, which supports the sense that the vehicle is built for everyday use. The base model’s lower equipment level can make ownership feel simpler, but some buyers have reported engine issues, so a careful pre-purchase inspection matters if you want to reduce long-term ownership risk.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford Edge?
At 68% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize an inspection that focuses on bodywork, repairs, and any signs of uneven wear. Because the Edge was sold with multiple trims and equipment levels, it also helps to confirm that the features you want are actually present on the specific listing you’re considering. Pay extra attention to condition on higher-mileage examples, especially if you’re shopping for a family hauler you plan to keep for a while.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base Edge SE comes with a 4.2-inch LCD screen, cloth seats, a reversing camera, and basic Sync, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience. The SEL brings available heated power seats, dual-zone climate control, Sync 3, navigation, blind-spot warning with cross-traffic alert, and a hands-free liftgate. The Titanium adds leather-trimmed heated seats, driver’s-seat memory, Sync 3, two USB ports, and a 12-speaker Sony audio system.
- Powertrain: The lineup includes a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder, an available 3.5-liter V6, and a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 in the Sport. The Sport’s 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque make it the most responsive choice, while the base engine is the efficiency play. The 6-speed automatic is standard across the range.
- Safety package: The Edge includes multiple airbags and a reversing camera on the base model, while higher trims can add lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, forward-collision warning, a 180-degree front camera with washer, and available inflatable rear safety belts. Some of the more advanced safety features are reserved for higher trims.
- Infotainment: Base models use Sync with a 4.2-inch color LCD screen, voice recognition, and a single USB port. Sync 3 upgrades you to an 8-inch touchscreen with two USB ports, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, and it’s a major usability improvement.
- Fuel efficiency: The Sport is EPA-estimated at 17 mpg city/24 highway, while the base engine with FWD and auto start-stop is rated at 21 mpg city/29 highway.
Which 2017 Ford Edge trim should I buy?
The 2017 Ford Edge is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, Titanium, Sport.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SE is the value entry point, but it lacks the richer tech and safety upgrades found higher up the range. You get the essentials, yet the infotainment and convenience setup is modest.
- Sweet-spot trim: The SEL is the best balance for most shoppers because it adds the features that make daily use easier, including Sync 3, available heated seats, dual-zone climate control, and available blind-spot warning.
- Premium/top trim: The Titanium is the most upscale choice, with standard leather-trimmed heated seats, driver’s-seat memory, Sync 3, two USB ports, and a 12-speaker Sony audio system.
- Off-road trim: The Sport is the performance-focused choice, but its stronger engine and available extras can push pricing up quickly for typical daily drivers.
The safety package is strongest on higher trims, where you can add lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, and forward-collision warning.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Ford Edge?
This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can be selective without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,937 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.95% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 68.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,272.24, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Ford Edge's resale value?
The current average of $12,587 sits slightly below last year's $13,383.
That price movement suggests the Edge has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stabilizes. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned to limit your loss later. The current demand picture also helps, since a meaningful share of listings is still being viewed as a deal.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.43/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Ford Edge safe?
The Ford Edge earns an overall five-star rating from NHTSA and a Good rating from IIHS, with an Acceptable result in small front overlap. It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Edge includes multiple airbags and a reversing camera, and higher trims can add lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, forward-collision warning, and a 180-degree front camera with washer. The main caveat is that it lacks front crash-mitigation technology, which keeps it from qualifying for the Top Safety Pick+ designation. That means you should pay close attention to the exact safety equipment on the listing you’re considering, especially if you want the most advanced driver-assistance features.
Should I buy a 2017 Ford Edge or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 68% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.95% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.43/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It offers a balanced family-friendly package with strong space, comfort, and available performance.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $11,317, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $12,587 average.
- It adds Sync 3 and strong family appeal.
The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, comfort, and feature availability, the 2017 is the stronger all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2016 is the better value path, especially if you find one in clean condition with the equipment you want.
