Used 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD for Sale nearSan Jose, CA

How much does the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD cost?

Prices have softened 2.96% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,441 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD a good car?

Yes — 4.67/5 from owners and 8/10 from experts. The Silverado 2500HD is aimed squarely at hard work, and that purpose shows in its worksite-focused design, all-new diesel engine, and practical features meant to make job-site life easier. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Technology.

That combination makes it especially appealing if you want a heavy-duty truck built for demanding jobs rather than everyday commuting. 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Silverado 2500HD’s appeal is rooted in durability-minded utility: it is built for heavy-duty use, and the expert review emphasizes that it is meant to handle demanding work rather than light-duty errands. The diesel powertrain is described as quick, surprisingly quiet, and strong under throttle, which supports confidence in the truck’s core mechanical mission.

Its practical features also point to a truck designed to make ownership easier over time, especially for buyers who tow or work on job sites. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is buying a truck that has been worked hard without proper maintenance or inspection, so condition and service history matter more than mileage alone.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD?

At 69.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has been used for towing or job-site duty. Focus on overall condition, signs of heavy use, and whether the truck’s equipment still works as intended. Because this model is built for hard work, a clean-looking truck can still hide wear that matters to a used buyer.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Work Truck trim is the most basic setup, while LT adds the larger MyLink touchscreen, 17-inch aluminum wheels, heated seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and Bluetooth connectivity. LTZ adds leather seating, dual-zone automatic climate control, remote start, and more chrome, while High Country swaps much of that chrome for color-matched bumpers, a unique grille design, and 20-inch wheels.
• Powertrain: The standard engine is a 6.0-liter V8 with 360 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque, while the available 6.6-liter Duramax diesel V8 makes 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque. The diesel is described as quick, surprisingly quiet, and especially strong when you need towing muscle.
• Safety package: The truck includes a reversing camera with active guidelines, side-mirror cameras that help cover both blind spots, and trailering safety equipment such as trailer brake control and the ability to cycle through the cameras while towing. The side-camera system is especially useful for lane changes and tight clearances.
• Infotainment: The base setup uses a 4.2-inch color screen, while the larger 8-inch MyLink touchscreen adds an easier layout and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Navigation-equipped versions also add real-time traffic and weather forecasts.
• Fuel efficiency: In mixed driving, the diesel test truck returned 16.6 mpg.

Which 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD trim should I buy?

The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is offered in 4 trim levels: Work Truck, LT, LTZ, High Country.

Here's the short version:

• Work Truck: This is the most affordable path into the Silverado 2500HD, but it is also the most basic. You get the gas V8, a 4.2-inch color screen, four speakers, and a USB port, so it makes sense if you want the truck’s core capability and plan to keep the equipment simple.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for most used buyers because it adds the larger MyLink touchscreen, 17-inch aluminum wheels, heated seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and Bluetooth connectivity. It is the trim that most clearly balances work-truck toughness with everyday comfort.
• LTZ: This trim steps up to leather seating, dual-zone automatic climate control, remote start, and more chrome on the mirror caps and door handles. Choose it if you want a more upscale cabin and are willing to pay for the extra comfort.
• High Country: This is the top-tier trim, with color-matched bumpers, a unique grille design, and 20-inch wheels. It is the right pick if you want the most distinctive appearance and the highest-end presentation.

The safety-camera setup is a standout feature across the truck, and the side-mirror camera system is especially helpful when you are towing or changing lanes.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to shop carefully and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,441 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.96% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 69.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $29,313, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $30,455 sits slightly below last year's $31,383.

That price movement suggests the truck has softened a bit, which can help you as a buyer now but may temper short-term gains if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key is to buy well and keep the truck in strong condition, because heavy-duty trucks tend to hold demand when they are clean, well maintained, and properly equipped.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD safe?

The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

It includes a reversing camera with active guidelines, side-mirror cameras that help cover both blind spots, and trailering safety equipment such as trailer brake control and the ability to cycle through the cameras while towing. Those features are especially useful in a heavy-duty truck, where visibility and trailer control matter a lot.

The side-camera system is a notable strength because it helps with lane changes and tight clearances, and it gives you extra confidence when maneuvering a tall truck. The main safety caveat is that the truck’s strongest safety tools are practical camera-based aids rather than a long list of advanced driver-assistance features.

Should I buy a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.96% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 model stands out for its all-new diesel engine and work-focused features that make life easier for contractors and job-site users.

The bottom line: If you want a heavy-duty truck with strong diesel power, practical worksite features, and a market that currently gives you some negotiating room, the 2017 is the right year to target. If you are especially price-sensitive, shop carefully for the best-condition truck in your budget and prioritize history and inspection results over trim level alone.
