What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Chevrolet Cruze?

At 53.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had body damage or multiple owners. Focus on how the car drives, whether the electronics work properly, and whether the interior and suspension show signs of heavier-than-average use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The hatchback is offered only in LT and Premier trims, and the lower trims leave out basic equipment like cruise control. The LT adds 16-inch alloys, a 6-speaker stereo with satellite radio, LED running lights, heated mirrors, and steering-wheel audio controls, while the Premier adds leather, a heated steering wheel, 17-inch wheels, and extra chrome accents.
• Powertrain: The Cruze uses a turbocharged 1.4-liter engine with 153 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. It feels fine in stop-and-go traffic, but it can feel short on power for hills, highway merging, and passing.
• Safety package: Teen Driver is standard across the lineup. The LT can add blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and rear parking sensors, while the Premier can add forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning and intervention, and auto high beams.
• Infotainment: Standard Chevy MyLink uses an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Navigation requires the Premier and the Sun and Sound with Navigation package.
• Fuel efficiency: The automatic is rated at 28 mpg city and 37 mpg highway, and the manual is said to offer a slight 1-mpg advantage.

Which 2017 Chevrolet Cruze trim should I buy?

The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze is offered in 2 trim levels: LT and Premier.

Here's the short version:

• LT: This is the best-value starting point because it gets you the core Cruze hatchback experience without jumping straight to the pricier Premier. You get the 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus useful everyday features like LED running lights, heated mirrors, and steering-wheel controls. If you want the Cruze’s utility and tech without stretching the budget, this is the trim to target.
• Premier: This is the trim to choose if you want the most comfort and convenience equipment. It adds leather, a heated steering wheel, 17-inch wheels, and the Convenience Package as standard, with available upgrades that bring in navigation, wireless charging, heated rear seats, and more. It suits you best if you want a more upscale compact and are willing to pay for it.

Teen Driver is standard across the lineup, which is a useful safety and family note regardless of trim.

What is the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze's resale value?

The current average of $9,227 sits slightly below last year's $9,573.

That softer pricing suggests the Cruze has already absorbed some of its depreciation, which can help if you buy at the right number. If you keep the car in good condition and avoid overpaying now, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss when it’s time to sell.

Chevrolet includes Teen Driver standard, and the Cruze also comes with full-length side curtain, knee, and front and rear side airbags. Should I buy a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 27.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 53.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.61% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• Chevrolet added a sloping rear hatch for more utility and broader appeal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $8,026, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $9,227 average.
• It’s a fresh second-generation redesign with strong real-world practicality.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $9,941, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $9,227 average.
• It adds diesel versions for buyers who want that powertrain choice.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, utility, and modern tech, the 2017 is the main target. If you’re shopping on a tighter budget, the 2016 is the value play; if you specifically want the later-year diesel option, look to the 2018.
