Is the 2017 Cadillac XT5 a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Cadillac XT5 earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise the XT5 for its comfort, smooth driving feel, stylish design, and safety features. That lines up with its use case as a lighter, roomier, more tech-focused luxury crossover that aims to feel modern and spacious rather than traditional or flashy. For you, that means the XT5 makes the most sense if you want a premium SUV with a comfortable, upscale personality and strong everyday usability.

The market also looks reasonably supportive, with 33.5% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2017 Cadillac XT5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels comfortable, luxurious, and easy to live with over time, and it also reflects confidence in the XT5’s safety features. On the expert side, Cadillac’s emphasis on technology and lightweight construction supports the impression of a well-engineered crossover, while the cost-effectiveness commentary notes that Cadillac’s reliability reputation has been softer than some rivals. If you’re shopping used, that means the XT5 can be a satisfying long-term choice, but you should pay close attention to maintenance history and overall condition before committing.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Cadillac XT5?

At 59.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and make sure any prior damage is fully documented and repaired to a standard you’re comfortable with. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important here, since comfort, electronics, and driver-assistance features are a big part of the XT5’s appeal. Focus on seat condition, infotainment behavior, and whether the vehicle’s equipment matches the trim and options advertised.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base models already include an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 8-speaker Bose sound system, a rear-view camera, parking sensors, keyless ignition and entry, remote start, dual-zone climate control, a power liftgate, and a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. Higher trims add leather, heated and ventilated seating, a panoramic sunroof, blind-spot monitoring, and more advanced convenience and safety equipment.
• Powertrain: The XT5 uses a 3.6-liter V6 across the lineup, with 310 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque. It delivers brawny acceleration, but the engine can sound strained at higher revs, and the transmission can feel a bit jerky in stop-and-go traffic.
• Safety package: The Driver Awareness package adds forward-collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, auto high beams, and lane-departure warning and assist. The Driver Assist package adds adaptive cruise, automatic parking, and an upgraded collision-mitigation system. Some of these features are not standard on lower trims.
• Infotainment: Every trim gets an 8-inch touchscreen with CUE, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and smartphone integration. The system also supports an 8-speaker Bose audio setup, and the tech suite includes Qi wireless charging.
• Fuel efficiency: The XT5 is EPA estimated at 18 mpg city and 26 highway, with a combined rating of 21.

Which 2017 Cadillac XT5 trim should I buy?

The 2017 Cadillac XT5 is offered in 4 trim levels: Base, Luxury, Premium Luxury, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the value play if you want the XT5’s core luxury and tech without stretching your budget. You still get the 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bose audio, a rear-view camera, parking sensors, remote start, and a power liftgate.
• Luxury: This trim adds the most meaningful comfort and safety upgrades for the money, including leather, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a more upscale cabin feel. It’s the best-value trim for many shoppers.
• Premium Luxury: Choose this if you want a more polished ride and more advanced equipment, including vented front seats, interior accent lighting, continually adjusting suspension dampers, and the ability to add more advanced safety and convenience packages.
• Platinum: This is the fully loaded choice, with premium leather, unique styling details, a hands-free power liftgate, heated outer seats, 3-zone climate control, a head-up display, and a 360-degree camera view. It’s the right pick if you want the most features and don’t mind paying for them.

The safety-package trims are worth noting: Driver Awareness and Navigation can be added as options on lower trims, while Driver Assist is still an add-on even at the top end.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Cadillac XT5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,203 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.10% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,881, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Cadillac XT5's resale value?

The current average of $14,949 sits slightly below last year's $16,268.

That decline suggests the XT5 has already absorbed some of its depreciation, which can be helpful if you’re buying now and planning to own for a while. For a future seller, the softer pricing trend means you should expect resale to be influenced by condition, mileage, and equipment more than by broad market momentum. Well-kept examples with desirable features should hold up better than neglected ones, especially in a segment where shoppers compare many similar luxury crossovers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Cadillac XT5 safe?

The 2017 Cadillac XT5 earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Cadillac says the XT5 comes with a full suite of airbags, including curtain and driver knee airbags, plus traction and stability control systems. It also offers available safety tech such as forward-collision alert and mitigation, lane-departure warning and correction, front pedestrian detection, parking sensors front and back, adaptive cruise with a following-distance indicator, and an upgraded collision-mitigation system. Standard OnStar adds automatic crash notification, stolen vehicle recovery, remote door control, and roadside assistance.

A key caveat is that much of the XT5’s strongest safety equipment is tied to higher trims or optional packages, so you’ll want to verify exactly what’s installed on any used example you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2017 Cadillac XT5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.10% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Cadillac positioned the XT5 as a lighter, roomier, more tech-focused replacement for the SRX, which gives this year a clear identity in the lineup.

The bottom line: The 2017 XT5 makes sense if you want a comfortable, tech-forward luxury crossover and you’re willing to shop carefully for the right example. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby model years, but the 2017 already shows a softer price trend and solid owner satisfaction, which makes it a reasonable starting point.
