Is the 2017 Buick LaCrosse reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to a car that many drivers find comfortable and dependable enough to recommend for everyday use, with praise centered on its smooth ride, spaciousness, and advanced features. The expert evaluation also describes the car as structurally rock solid, which supports the sense that it is built to hold up well over time.

Buick’s description of the car’s refinement and the expert’s emphasis on its robust architecture both point to a sedan that should feel reassuring in long-term ownership. For used buyers, the main risk is less about core durability and more about making sure any electronics-related issues have been addressed before you buy.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Buick LaCrosse?

At 58.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or visible cosmetic wear. Pay close attention to body condition, paint quality, and whether the electronics behave normally, since owner feedback mentions temperature-gauge and error-message concerns.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Buick offers the LaCrosse in Base, Preferred, Essence, and Premium trims, and the base setup can leave out equipment that makes the car feel more upscale. The loaded versions add comfort and convenience features such as heated and massaging seats, a panoramic sunroof, automatic parking assist, and adaptive cruise control.
• Powertrain: The car uses a 3.6-liter V6 with an 8-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive is standard with all-wheel drive available. The V6 is tuned for 310 horsepower and is described as refined, while the chassis changes and weight loss help the car feel more capable than the previous model.
• Safety package: The available driver-assistance suite includes full-speed-range adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure prevention, blind-spot warning, a safety-alert seat, a rear-seat reminder, Teen Driver technology, and OnStar services. Some of these features are tied to higher equipment levels, and the base car can give up automatic emergency braking capability.
• Infotainment: The car includes Buick’s IntelliLink system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, a responsive touchscreen, logical menus, and separate climate controls. It also offers a wireless charging slot, with available upgrades such as a Bose Centerpoint audio system and a head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert evaluation cites 25 mpg in combined driving for the front-wheel-drive test car, while the performance notes say it averaged 23.2 mpg on the evaluation loop.

Which 2017 Buick LaCrosse trim should I buy?

The 2017 Buick LaCrosse is offered in 4 trim levels: Base, Preferred, Essence, and Premium.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the entry point, but you should treat it as the trim most likely to leave out the comfort and convenience features that make the LaCrosse feel special. If you want the car’s upscale character without stretching too far, this is the one to compare carefully against the next step up.
• Preferred: This is the trim that makes the most sense for many shoppers because it should give you a better balance of equipment and value than the base car. If you want the LaCrosse experience without paying for the top-end extras, this is the best-value trim to focus on first.
• Essence: This is the middle ground for buyers who want more comfort and convenience without jumping all the way to the top trim. It should be the right fit if you care about a more premium feel and want to avoid overpaying for features you may not use.
• Premium: This is the trim for you if you want the most upscale version of the LaCrosse and are willing to pay for it. The expert test car was a Premium with every option package, and the content highlights features such as heated and massaging seats, a panoramic sunroof, adaptive cruise control, and automatic parking assist.

Safety-package note: the available driver-assistance features are extensive, but some of the most advanced items are not part of the lower-spec setup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Buick LaCrosse?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 25.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 318 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.81% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,899, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Buick LaCrosse's resale value?

The current average of $14,899 sits slightly below last year's $15,818.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car has been maintained.

Because the LaCrosse still has solid demand from shoppers who want a comfortable, upscale sedan, a clean example should remain easier to move than a neglected one. If you keep the car in strong condition and avoid accident history, you give yourself a better chance of preserving value.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Buick LaCrosse safe?

The 2017 Buick LaCrosse earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings for front passenger protection in a frontal-impact collision and driver protection in a side-impact collision.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The available driver-assistance suite includes full-speed-range adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure prevention, blind-spot warning, a safety-alert seat, a rear-seat reminder, Teen Driver technology, and OnStar services. The expert notes also point out that the system can be very refined, though lane-departure prevention can react awkwardly in narrowing lanes.

One caveat to keep in mind is that the base setup can give up automatic emergency braking capability, so you should verify the exact equipment on any used listing you consider.

Should I buy a 2017 Buick LaCrosse or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 25.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.81% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The expert summary says the redesigned 2017 LaCrosse is a perfect example of Buick’s shift toward a more premium, modern image.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, comfort, and upscale character, the 2017 is the one to target first. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and look for a cleaner, lower-priced example, but the 2017 already sits in a favorable spot for buyers who want a premium-feeling sedan without paying new-car money.
