Is the 2017 BMW X5 a good car?

Generally — the 4.47/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Is the 2017 BMW X5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.47/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The review summary points to a vehicle that many owners find dependable in daily use, with praise centered on its strong performance, comfortable ride, and overall appeal as a long-term luxury SUV. At the same time, some owners mention maintenance issues and equipment concerns, so reliability is best approached as something that depends heavily on how the vehicle was maintained. For used buyers, the long-term ownership risk is manageable only if you prioritize service records and condition over mileage alone.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 BMW X5?

At 61.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from those with collision or title concerns. After that, put a pre-purchase inspection at the top of your checklist, especially for maintenance, electronics, and signs of deferred care. Focus on overall condition and documented upkeep, because a well-kept example is the safest way to buy this model year.

• Deal availability: 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

What is the 2017 BMW X5's resale value?

The current average of $15,329 sits slightly below last year's $17,124.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make resale timing more important if you plan to sell later. If you buy at a favorable price now and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned to limit depreciation pressure. Demand should remain supported by the X5’s strong owner satisfaction and luxury-SUV appeal, but future resale will still depend on maintenance history and overall condition.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.47/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 BMW X5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.48% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.47/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 is the better choice if you want the strongest mix of value, owner satisfaction, and current market leverage in this range. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may still make sense, but you should compare condition, accident history, and asking price closely before deciding.
