Is the 2017 BMW 4 Series a good car?

Generally — the 4.08/5 user rating points to a well-liked used car. Is the 2017 BMW 4 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 4.08/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback also points to a dependable ownership experience for many drivers, with comments that it feels reliable and trouble-free over time. At the same time, a few owners mention minor issues and reliability concerns, so you should expect some variation from one used example to the next. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is manageable if you choose carefully and verify maintenance history.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 BMW 4 Series?

At 51.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection should be a priority, especially if you are considering a convertible or a higher-mileage example. Focus on overall condition, signs of past bodywork, and whether the car has been maintained consistently, since premium repairs can be costly if something goes wrong.

The current average of $15,912 sits slightly below last year's $16,910.

That softer pricing suggests the model has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to stay competitive on price. If you buy well now and keep the car in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it is time to resell. Demand should remain supported by the model’s sporty character and premium appeal.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.08/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 BMW 4 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 51.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.90% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.08/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 is the right pick if you want a sporty, premium 4 Series with a favorable price trend and enough inventory to shop carefully. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the best-maintained example rather than the newest badge alone.
