What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Audi A4?

At 57.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a car with more equipment or a higher trim. Focus on condition, prior damage, and whether the features you care about are actually present on the specific car you’re looking at.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Premium trim includes front-wheel drive, a 7-speed automated manual transmission, 17-inch aluminum wheels, HID headlights, leather seats, triple-zone automatic climate control, a 10-speaker sound system, and a forward-collision warning system with front and rear automatic emergency braking. Premium Plus adds S-line exterior trim, larger 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, parking-assist sensors, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, passive keyless entry, and SOS emergency calling. Prestige adds Audi Virtual Cockpit instrumentation, a navigation system with a handwriting recognition pad, Audi Connect subscription services, a blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert, a head-up display, and a 360-degree top-view camera system.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine delivers broad power and strong refinement, with 252 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. Quattro all-wheel drive is available and adds planted, confident traction.
• Safety package: Audi Pre-Sense Basic and Pre-Sense City are standard, along with forward collision warning, front and rear automatic emergency braking, and pedestrian detection. Higher trims add blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic assist, lane-departure warning and assist, turn assist, Pre-Sense Rear, and automatic high-beam headlights.
• Infotainment: The MMI system uses an 8.3-inch screen, and the setup includes handwriting recognition. Premium Plus and Prestige bring the Bang & Olufsen audio system, while Prestige adds Audi Virtual Cockpit and Audi Connect services.
• Fuel efficiency: Audi says the Quattro version returns 27 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2017 Audi A4 trim should I buy?

The 2017 Audi A4 is offered in 3 trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, Prestige.

Here's the short version:

• Premium: This is the entry point, but it still gives you a strong equipment list with leather seats, triple-zone automatic climate control, a 10-speaker sound system, and standard collision-avoidance tech. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the redesigned A4 and can live without the more advanced tech and convenience features.
• Premium Plus: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds S-line exterior trim, larger wheels, LED headlights, parking-assist sensors, passive keyless entry, SOS emergency calling, and the upgraded Bang & Olufsen sound system. It also opens the door to more of the A4’s desirable technology and driver-assistance features.
• Prestige: This is the trim to choose if you want the full tech experience, including Audi Virtual Cockpit, navigation, Audi Connect services, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, a head-up display, and a 360-degree camera system. It’s the right pick if you want the most advanced A4 and are willing to pay for it.

The safety package expands as you move up the range, with Premium Plus and Prestige getting additional driver-assistance features beyond the standard collision-avoidance setup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Audi A4?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can find value if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 887 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.07% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 57.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,271, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Audi A4's resale value?

The current average of $13,274 sits slightly below last year's $14,284.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at a strong price and keep the car in clean condition, you’ll be better positioned than someone who pays near the top of the range.

The A4’s appeal as a redesigned, tech-forward luxury sedan should help it stay relevant with shoppers who want a modern-feeling compact premium car. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Audi A4 safe?

The 2017 Audi A4 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Audi Pre-Sense Basic is standard, and Pre-Sense City adds forward collision warning, front and rear automatic emergency braking, and pedestrian detection. Higher trims add blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic assist, lane-departure warning and assist, turn assist, Pre-Sense Rear, and automatic high-beam headlights.

One caveat is that the automatic emergency braking system can be intrusive in some situations, including false interventions during tight cornering or while reversing. That means you should pay close attention during your test drive to how the driver-assistance systems behave in real-world use.

Should I buy a 2017 Audi A4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 57.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.07% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• For 2017, the A4 is the redesigned model that most clearly points toward Audi’s future, with standout tech like Virtual Cockpit and a strong mix of luxury and driving appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the most modern-feeling version of this generation, the 2017 A4 is the one to target. It combines the redesign, strong owner satisfaction, and a lower used price than last year, which makes it the primary path for most shoppers. If your priority is simply stretching your budget, you can still shop carefully and focus on the best-priced, clean-history examples.
