CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Acura MDX

Summary
With 140 currently listed for sale near Washington, DC and an average price of $16,876, 22.9% of 2017 Acura MDXs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Acura MDX 4.75 / 5 stars.
85.7% of 2017 MDX models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Acura MDX stands out as a three-row luxury SUV that blends comfort, practicality, and a strong reputation for quality. It was part of the third generation, which brought a new dual-screen infotainment setup, a re-engineered 3.5-liter V6 with 290 horsepower, and a more fuel-conscious approach than before. Acura also made front-wheel drive available for the first time, and the MDX could be had with packages rather than traditional trim levels, which helped spread more features across the lineup.
What makes the 2017 model especially notable is the refresh it received that year. Acura gave it a visual update that removed the controversial grille, made all of the MDX’s formerly optional safety systems standard, and introduced the MDX Sport Hybrid. That hybrid paired a 3.0-liter V6 with a trio of electric motors and produced 321 system horsepower, while also delivering up to 27 mpg combined and 26 mpg in city driving. For buyers who wanted a family SUV with more standard safety equipment and a more efficient powertrain option, that was a meaningful step forward.
Even so, the 2017 MDX was not perfect. The dual-screen infotainment system was still difficult to use, and the third row remained small. But the MDX’s comfortable ride, solid reliability reputation, and generous feature content made it appealing to shoppers who wanted a well-equipped luxury SUV with real utility.

This car, the Acura MDX is a total surprise to me. The features are sophisticated and just the right amount of technology and swag that makes it an eye catching bang for my bucks. I came out of a Tahoe with great features and good looks that turned heads and attracted inquiries. My MDX is getting so many compliments and attention from my friends, family, and group members because the maintenance record was impressive and it has the look of luxury; it's a stylish vehicle, that boasts reliability second only to Toyota Lexus. I enjoy driving the MDX and the only thing missing is free oil changes.

How much does the 2017 Acura MDX cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $17,619 |
| Year-Round Low | $17,349 |
| Year-Round High | $18,952 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $18,959 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.07% |
Prices have softened 7.07% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,138 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.
Is the 2017 Acura MDX a good car?
Yes — the 4.75/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise the comfortable ride, spacious interior, and safety features, and the model’s three-row layout makes it appealing if you want family-friendly utility in a luxury SUV. The main tradeoffs are the infotainment system’s complexity and some concerns about interior finish quality, but the overall ownership experience is still viewed positively. With 33.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Acura MDX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback emphasizes a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise for comfort, space, and the kind of quality that helps you count on it over time. That said, the infotainment complaints suggest you should separate mechanical confidence from day-to-day usability. For used buyers, the long-term risk is less about broad reliability concerns and more about finding a well-kept example with systems that still work as intended.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Acura MDX?
At 63.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can screen for accidents, title issues, and repeated damage. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has any prior incident history. Focus on overall condition, signs of uneven wear, and whether the vehicle’s features and electronics operate cleanly.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Acura MDX?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the best examples.
- Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,138 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.07% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 63.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $17,349, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Acura MDX's resale value?
The current average of $17,619 sits slightly below last year's $18,959.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the model easier to buy now but may also limit short-term upside for a future seller. If you plan to resell later, condition and documentation matter more when the market is already softer. A clean history and strong maintenance records can help you stand out when it is time to list.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Acura MDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 63.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.07% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $14,667, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $17,619 average.
- It emphasizes safety, athleticism, and refinement in a premium family package.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger all-around shopping case, the 2017 is the better primary path because it combines solid owner satisfaction with a softer price trend and a decent share of good deals. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2016 is the better secondary path, especially if you find one in excellent condition.
