CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Toyota RAV4

Summary
With 210 currently listed for sale near Greensboro, NC and an average price of $14,639, 31.4% of 2016 Toyota RAV4s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Toyota RAV4 4.62 / 5 stars.
76.2% of 2016 RAV4 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Toyota RAV4 stands out as a practical compact SUV that had already become a familiar benchmark in the segment, and this model year adds meaningful updates without abandoning the formula. It brought updated styling with LED exterior lighting and a redesigned front end, along with more sound insulation and refreshed interior styling. Toyota also expanded the active-safety equipment, making automatic emergency braking standard and offering features such as lane departure warnings, rear cross traffic alerts, and adaptive cruise control with lane centering. For buyers who want a small crossover that feels well equipped and easy to live with, those changes make the 2016 RAV4 especially appealing.
It also benefits from the broader strengths that define the RAV4 name: strong practicality, a reputation for reliability, and a cabin that makes efficient use of space. The 2016 hybrid is a particular highlight, pairing a 150-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder with a trio of electric motors for 194 system horsepower and standard all-wheel drive, while returning up to 32 mpg combined. At the same time, the RAV4 is not trying to be the most exciting SUV in its class. The source notes that it is not very exciting to drive and can be noisy inside, and owners also mention that the ride can feel a bit rougher than some rivals.

I like the way they handle on the open road. The ride is smooth and the accommodations are extremely comfortable. The built in back parking camera is a great feature that comes in handy for numerous driving needs. Mileage isnt bad. The construction is solid. If you have a family and want to keep them protected, I encourage you to do some independent research on the chasis design and the safety features that Toyota puts into their vehicles. I will stick to Toyotas because of everything that goes into them at every level.

How much does the 2016 Toyota RAV4 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $16,214 |
| Year-Round Low | $15,410 |
| Year-Round High | $16,505 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $16,107 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +0.66% |
Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.
There are 2,394 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2016 Toyota RAV4 a good car?
Yes — the 4.62/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its reliability, fuel efficiency, and comfortable ride, and they also call out its safety features as a major strength. That lines up well with the overview: you’re looking at a practical compact SUV that’s easy to live with and well suited to everyday family use. With 30.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2016 Toyota RAV4 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback repeatedly highlights reliability, and it also describes the RAV4 as dependable and trouble-free in everyday use. That kind of reputation matters if you want a used SUV you can count on for the long haul. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about the model’s basic durability and more about finding one that has been maintained well and hasn’t accumulated hidden wear.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Toyota RAV4?
At 52.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report on any promising listing before you get too far into negotiations. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection so you can check for signs of past damage, uneven repairs, or wear that doesn’t match the mileage. Focus especially on body condition, panel alignment, and how the vehicle drives, since those details can reveal whether a cheaper listing is actually a good value.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Toyota RAV4?
This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting deep discounts across the board.
- Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,394 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 52.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,410, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Toyota RAV4's resale value?
The current average of $16,214 sits slightly above last year's $16,107.
That small increase suggests the market has stayed stable rather than swinging sharply in either direction. For you as a future seller, that kind of pricing pattern can be helpful because it points to steady buyer interest instead of a model that is losing value quickly. The RAV4’s practical reputation and broad appeal also help support demand when it’s time to resell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 Toyota RAV4 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 52.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $14,851, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $16,214 average.
- It offers practical usefulness and strong cargo space.
The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced choice, the 2016 is the stronger pick because it combines steady pricing, solid owner satisfaction, and a healthy pool of listings. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2015 is the better value path, especially if you find one in clean condition with a good history.
