How much does the 2016 Toyota Corolla cost?

Prices are up 3.01% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 1,987 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 Toyota Corolla a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Toyota Corolla earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its fuel efficiency, smooth ride, and value for money. The review summary also points to a comfortable, luxurious feel for the price, along with a generally reliable and dependable reputation.

That fits the Corolla’s role as a practical economy car with a polished look and the features you really need. For shoppers who want a sensible daily driver without chasing flash, it lands in a strong use-case sweet spot.

With 31.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still meaningful value in the market.

Is the 2016 Toyota Corolla reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The review summary describes the Corolla as reliable and dependable, and it also suggests owners see it as a car they can count on over time. The expert commentary reinforces that with language about reliable daily driving for years, if not decades to come.

The performance notes also frame it as good enough to get up to highway speed and get out of trouble safely, which supports its everyday dependability. If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the CVT-equipped cars have been maintained and driven consistently.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Toyota Corolla?

At 43.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or incomplete service records. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the car feels consistent on a test drive.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base L is the most stripped-down version, while the LE adds a touchscreen, remote keyless entry, automatic climate control, and SofTex-trimmed seats. The S adds a sportier look with a unique grille, integrated fog lights, available 17-inch alloy wheels, chrome-tipped exhaust, and a rear spoiler.
• Powertrain: The Corolla uses a 1.8-liter inline 4-cylinder. Most versions make 132 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque, while the LE Eco uses Valvematic technology and other tweaks to reach 140 hp and 126 lb-ft of torque. Most trims use a CVT, while the L can also be had with a 6-speed manual or 4-speed automatic.
• Safety package: Every Corolla features the Star Safety System, which includes eight standard airbags, vehicle stability control, traction control, and antilock brakes. Models with the touchscreen also get an integrated backup camera, but the Corolla does not offer forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, or adaptive cruise control.
• Infotainment: The base car has a conventional touchscreen and controls layout. The LE adds a 6.1-inch touchscreen, and the system includes Entune apps, voice control, Bluetooth, and Siri Eyes Free when paired with a Bluetooth-connected iPhone. Toyota does not offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The CVT with FWD earns an EPA-estimated 29 mpg city/38 highway/32 combined. The base L with the 4-speed automatic returns 27/36/31, the 6-speed versions return 28/37/31, and the LE Eco gets 30 mpg city/42 highway/36 combined.

Which 2016 Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?

The 2016 Toyota Corolla is offered in 4 trim levels: L, LE, LE Eco, and S.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the value-first choice if you want the lowest starting price and can live without the extra convenience features. It gives you Bluetooth, USB input, LED headlights, and eight airbags, but it is the most basic version.
• LE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 6.1-inch touchscreen, remote keyless entry, automatic climate control, and SofTex-trimmed seats without moving into the sportier, pricier end of the lineup.
• LE Eco: Choose this if fuel economy is your top priority. It uses the same 1.8-liter engine with efficiency-focused tuning and delivers the best mpg figures in the lineup.
• S: Pick this if you want the Corolla’s sportier appearance and extra visual flair. It adds the unique grille, fog lights, available 17-inch wheels, chrome-tipped exhaust, and rear spoiler.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, but the touchscreen-equipped models are the ones that add the integrated backup camera.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Toyota Corolla?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should shop carefully and compare listings closely.

• Deal availability: 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,987 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 3.01% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 43.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,974, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Toyota Corolla's resale value?

The current average of $12,855 sits slightly above last year's $12,480.

That upward move suggests the Corolla has held buyer interest well, which can help support resale value if you decide to sell later. A model year with steady demand and a relatively tight price band often gives sellers a more predictable exit point.

The Corolla’s value-focused reputation also helps keep it on shopping lists for used buyers who want a practical commuter. That kind of broad appeal can make it easier to find a buyer when you’re ready to move on.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Toyota Corolla safe?

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Every Corolla features the Star Safety System, which includes eight standard airbags, vehicle stability control, traction control, and antilock brakes. Models equipped with the touchscreen also have an integrated backup camera.

The Corolla does not offer forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, or adaptive cruise control, so you should not expect the advanced driver-assistance coverage found in some rivals. That gap is worth keeping in mind if safety tech is a top priority for you.

Should I buy a 2016 Toyota Corolla or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 43.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 3.01% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It balances value, efficiency, and a straightforward feature set.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $11,825, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $12,855 average.
• It is dependable, sensible, and a little more enjoyable to drive.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $13,978, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $12,855 average.
• It adds standard Safety Sense P and a reversing camera.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of value and availability, the 2016 is the sensible pick. If you’re focused on saving money, the 2015 is the cheaper route. If you want more standard safety tech and can spend more, the 2017 is the stronger upgrade.

How does the 2016 Toyota Corolla compare to the 2016 Honda Civic?

Our experts score the 2016 Toyota Corolla 7.5/10 and the 2016 Honda Civic 8/10.

The Corolla is the value play, with a lower average used price and a stronger good-and-great-deal share. The Civic counters with more power, better fuel economy, and a higher expert score, which makes it the more refined choice overall.

If you want the cheaper buy with a strong reliability and value story, the Corolla makes sense. If you want the better-rounded small car and can spend more, the Civic is the stronger pick.
