What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Toyota Camry?

At 44.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on condition details that matter most in a used midsize sedan: signs of prior bodywork, tire wear, brake feel, and whether the cabin electronics and hybrid systems operate cleanly. If the car has been in an accident, make sure the repairs were done properly and that the car still tracks straight, brakes evenly, and shows no warning lights.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base-level setup is described as well-equipped, but the XLE example adds features like Safety Connect, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, keyless entry and ignition, JBL audio, a moonroof, and wireless charging.
• Powertrain: It uses a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder/electric motor hybrid setup with a Ni-MH battery pack, and the write-up describes it as smooth and responsive.
• Safety package: The available Advanced Technology Package adds the Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and automatic high beams.
• Infotainment: The cabin centers on a 7-inch touchscreen with Entune Premium, and the tech write-up notes USB and Aux inputs plus multiple power outlets.
• Fuel efficiency: The Camry Hybrid is rated at 40 mpg city and 38 mpg highway.

That small decline suggests the market has been stable rather than volatile, which is usually helpful if you plan to resell later. Should I buy a 2016 Toyota Camry or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 44.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It offers a competent hybrid experience with strong space, features, and safety.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $13,110, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $13,708 average.
• It adds new styling, an upgraded interior, and expanded infotainment and safety tech.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $14,915, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $13,708 average.
• It’s the last model year of the generation and feels more refined and mature.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, availability, and proven ownership appeal, the 2016 is the sensible pick. If you’re trying to save money, the 2015 is the value path; if you want the most mature version of this generation, the 2017 is the upgrade path.

How does the 2016 Toyota Camry compare to the 2016 Honda Accord?

Our experts score the 2016 Toyota Camry 7.2/10 and the 2016 Honda Accord 6.8/10.

The Camry leans on balance, safety, and a smooth, quiet driving experience, while the Accord brings a stronger engine and better fuel economy figures. The Camry also has the lower average used price, which can make it the easier buy if you want value and a more relaxed ownership experience. The Accord has slightly more listings and a marginally higher share of good and great deals, but the Camry’s strong owner satisfaction and safety record help it stay competitive.
