Is the 2016 Tesla Model X a good car?

Generally — the 2016 Tesla Model X earns a 4.31/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its performance, comfort, and innovative features, and many also like the unique design and spacious interior. For you, that means it fits especially well if you want a premium electric SUV with three-row flexibility and a distinctive feel rather than a conventional family hauler. With 30.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Tesla Model X reliable?

Owners rate it 4.31/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also highlights dependable performance, comfort, and a generally trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, even as some note concerns about repair costs for specific components. That mix suggests the model can reward careful buyers, but long-term ownership risk is still worth weighing closely because repairs on a used luxury EV can be expensive if you inherit neglected issues.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Tesla Model X?

At 74.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage affected the doors, glass, or body structure. Put inspection priority on fit and finish, door operation, and any signs of uneven panel gaps or repair work. It also makes sense to focus on overall condition and maintenance records, since repair costs for some components can be high.

What is the 2016 Tesla Model X's resale value?

The current average of $22,733 sits slightly below last year's $23,896.

That price movement suggests the market has softened, which can help you buy at a better entry point now but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. If you keep the vehicle in strong condition and avoid accident history, you’ll be in a better position to preserve value. Demand should remain supported by the model’s strong owner satisfaction and distinctive appeal.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.31/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Tesla Model X or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 74.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.87% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.31/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want the earliest widely available version of this electric SUV and you value its distinctive design, strong owner satisfaction, and softer pricing, the 2016 is a reasonable primary target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you should also compare nearby model years to see whether a slightly newer example offers a better condition-to-price balance before you commit.
