How much does the 2016 Subaru Crosstrek cost?

Prices have softened 7.35% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,242 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 Subaru Crosstrek a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Subaru Crosstrek earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 8/10.

Owners consistently praise the safety features, reliability, all-wheel drive, versatility, and easy handling. That lines up well with the Crosstrek’s practical use case as a compact crossover for everyday driving, bad weather, and light utility rather than speed.

With 32.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a meaningful chance to find a strong-value example.

Is the 2016 Subaru Crosstrek reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to the Crosstrek as reliable, with owners describing it as dependable and trouble-free over the long term. The expert evaluation also notes that it is a vehicle you can count on for practical use, even if the powertrain is not its strongest trait.

The cost-effectiveness assessment adds that reliability reports have placed it average at best, so you should still pay close attention to maintenance history and overall condition before buying.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Subaru Crosstrek?

At 58.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and any signs of prior repair. Because the Crosstrek’s appeal is tied to safety, practicality, and all-weather usefulness, condition matters more than chasing the lowest price alone.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base 2.0i comes with 17-inch alloys, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a rear-view camera, fog lights, a 6.2-inch touchscreen with smartphone integration, and a USB port/Aux input. The 2.0i Premium adds heated, body-color mirrors, heated front seats, an upgraded stereo, contrast stitching, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, an adjustable center armrest, and a cargo cover and tray. The 2.0i Limited adds upgraded gauges and infotainment with a 7-inch touchscreen and satellite radio, auto climate control, auto headlights, leather, and an acoustic windshield.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter boxer engine is paired with a 5-speed manual on the 2.0i and 2.0i Premium, while the CVT is optional on the Premium and standard on the Limited. The manual is rated at 23 mpg city/31 highway, and the CVT improves efficiency by 3 mpg on either end.
• Safety package: The Eyesight safety system adds rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-departure warning. The base trim includes a rear-view camera, and the car also comes with 4-wheel antilock brakes, traction and stability control, and a full suite of airbags.
• Infotainment: The base trim uses a 6.2-inch touchscreen with smartphone integration, while the Limited upgrades to a 7-inch touchscreen and satellite radio. Starlink adds automatic collision notification with SOS, stolen-vehicle recovery, and a monitoring app.
• Fuel efficiency: The manual transmission is rated at 23 mpg city and 31 highway, while the CVT improves efficiency by 3 mpg on either end.

Which 2016 Subaru Crosstrek trim should I buy?

The 2016 Subaru Crosstrek is offered in 3 trim levels: 2.0i, 2.0i Premium, 2.0i Limited.

Here's the short version:

• 2.0i: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and still want useful standard equipment like a rear-view camera, smartphone integration, fog lights, and 17-inch alloys. It makes the most sense if you care more about affordability and basic utility than comfort upgrades.
• 2.0i Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds heated front seats, heated mirrors, an upgraded stereo, and nicer interior touches without jumping too far in price. It’s the trim to target if you want a better daily-driving experience without paying for the top model.
• 2.0i Limited: This is the right pick if you want the most comfort and tech, including the 7-inch touchscreen, satellite radio, auto climate control, auto headlights, leather, and an acoustic windshield. It suits you best if you plan to keep the car longer and want the most complete feature set.

The safety package adds meaningful value, but the Eyesight system can be affected when the camera view is blocked.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Subaru Crosstrek?

This is a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,242 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.35% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,499, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Subaru Crosstrek's resale value?

The current average of $12,554 sits slightly below last year's $13,551.

That decline suggests the Crosstrek has become more affordable for used buyers, which can make it easier for you to enter the market now. For a future seller, the softer pricing means you should expect a more competitive resale environment than last year.

Even so, the model’s practical appeal and broad buyer interest help support demand. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Subaru Crosstrek safe?

The 2016 Subaru Crosstrek earns top marks from both IIHS and NHTSA, with a four-star rating in NHTSA’s total frontal impact test and top scores in the rest of its crash testing.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Crosstrek includes the Eyesight driver-assistance suite, which adds rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-departure warning. Standard safety equipment also includes 4-wheel antilock brakes, traction and stability control, a rear-view camera, and a full suite of airbags.

One caveat is that the Eyesight system can shut off when the camera view is blocked by sun, fog, mist, dirt, snow, or mud, so you should not treat it as a substitute for attentive driving.

Should I buy a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.35% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 model adds Starlink, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure alert, and a freshened look.

The bottom line: If you want the updated 2016 Crosstrek’s added safety and tech, it’s the right year to target. If you’re mainly shopping on price, a nearby year may still make sense, but you should compare equipment carefully because the 2016 brings meaningful updates that improve its appeal.

How does the 2016 Subaru Crosstrek compare to the 2016 Honda HR-V?

Our experts score the 2016 Subaru Crosstrek 6.5/10 and the 2016 Honda HR-V 7.5/10.

The Crosstrek gives you stronger safety emphasis, standard all-wheel-drive appeal, and a more rugged, utility-focused personality. The HR-V has the edge in expert score, fuel economy, and average used price, while the Crosstrek offers more listings and a slightly stronger deal share.
