How much does the 2016 RAM 1500 cost?

Prices have softened 6.57% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 5,781 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 RAM 1500 a good car?

Yes — the 2016 RAM 1500 earns 4.88/5 from owners and 8.33/10 from experts. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its stylish design, spacious interior, and strong performance. The review summary also points to its practical appeal for both work and family use, while the overview frames it as a comfort-first pickup with a more upscale, daily-driver feel.

Good and great deals account for 28.6% of listings, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2016 RAM 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a truck that feels dependable in everyday use, with strong satisfaction around its performance, spacious cabin, and overall practicality. The expert summary also emphasizes the EcoDiesel V6 and the truck’s broad appeal as a comfortable, upscale pickup, which supports the sense that it’s built to be used regularly and counted on.

The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is making sure the truck’s tech and equipment history is clean, since some owners mention missing features and specific tech concerns.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 RAM 1500?

At 64.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on trucks with higher mileage or visible wear. Focus on condition, equipment operation, and signs of prior bodywork so you can separate a clean example from one that has been repaired. Because this truck was often bought for both work and comfort, it’s worth checking that the cabin features and convenience equipment still function properly.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Tradesman is the simplest version, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience equipment; the Laramie brings heated leather seats, 20-inch wheels, and ParkSense with a backup camera.
• Powertrain: You can find a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 with 240 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, a 3.6-liter gas V6 with 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque, or a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque.
• Safety package: ParkSense front and rear parking sensors and a backup camera are highlighted, while lane-departure warning and blind-spot monitoring are not part of the described setup.
• Infotainment: Equipment ranges from a 5-inch Uconnect touchscreen on the Express to an 8.4-inch system on the Sport, plus navigation, satellite radio, an Alpine stereo with 9 speakers, and a customizable digital display in the center of the dash.
• Fuel efficiency: The EcoDiesel returns 20 mpg city/28 highway in rear-wheel-drive form and 19/27 in 4-wheel-drive form; the 3.6-liter V6 returns 18 mpg city/25 highway, and the 5.7-liter V8 is rated at 15 mpg city/22 highway.

Which 2016 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2016 RAM 1500 is offered in 4 trim levels: Tradesman, Express, Sport, and Laramie.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the value-focused starting point, and it still includes Bluetooth hands-free connectivity. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and plan to keep things simple.
• Express: This trim adds a standard V8, a Class 4 trailer hitch, and a 5-inch Uconnect touchscreen, making it the better pick if you want more capability without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• Sport: You get body-color bumpers, HID projector headlamps, a standard air suspension, and the larger 8.4-inch touchscreen system. This is the best-value trim if you want a more upscale feel and stronger feature content.
• Laramie: This trim adds heated leather seats, 20-inch wheels, and ParkSense with a backup camera. It’s the right choice if comfort and convenience matter most.

The safety-package highlight here is that ParkSense with backup camera appears on the higher trims, while the lower trims are more basic.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 RAM 1500?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 5,781 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.57% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 64.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,603, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $17,603 sits slightly below last year's $18,840.

That softer pricing suggests the truck has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right number. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range and keep the truck in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it’s time to resell. The market still appears active enough that well-kept examples should remain appealing to shoppers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 RAM 1500 safe?

It earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The truck comes with ParkSense front and rear parking sensors and a backup camera on the test model, plus a full complement of front and side-impact airbags. The safety content also notes that lane-departure warning and blind-spot monitoring were not equipped on the test vehicle, so you should check carefully if those features matter to you.

Should I buy a 2016 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 64.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.57% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 stands out for its luxury-truck positioning, with the EcoDiesel V6 and available air suspension giving it a notably upscale feel.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $15,911, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $17,603 average.
• It offers strong interior comfort, a good chassis, and two appealing powertrain options.

The bottom line: If you want the more upscale, comfort-focused version of this truck, the 2016 is the better target. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2015 is the smarter value play, especially if you find one in clean condition with the equipment you want.
