How much does the 2016 RAM 1500 cost?

Prices have softened 7.67% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 5,554 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 RAM 1500 a good car?

Yes — the 2016 RAM 1500 earns a 4.9/5 user rating and an 8.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its stylish design, spacious interiors, and strong performance, especially with the diesel option. The overview also points to a truck that leans into luxury while still serving practical work and family needs, which helps explain its broad appeal. With 32.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 RAM 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to a truck that feels stylish, spacious, and well equipped, while also highlighting strong performance and power. The expert notes reinforce that dependability story by emphasizing the EcoDiesel V6’s utility and the truck’s smooth, car-like air suspension. The base trim also includes Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, which adds everyday usability without forcing you up the lineup.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the truck’s equipment and condition match its premium positioning.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 RAM 1500?

At 64.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on trucks with higher mileage or luxury features. Focus on condition, equipment functionality, and signs of prior bodywork or wear that could affect long-term ownership costs.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Tradesman is the entry point, while the Express adds a standard V8, a Class 4 trailer hitch, and a Uconnect 5-inch touchscreen. The Sport adds body-color bumpers, HID projector headlamps, a standard air suspension, and the larger 8.4-inch touchscreen, while the Laramie adds heated leather seats, 20-inch wheels, and the ParkSense system with backup camera.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a base gas 3.6-liter V6 with 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque, plus an EcoDiesel V6 with 240 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. The diesel is highlighted for strong torque, and the 8-speed automatic helps support fuel economy.
• Safety package: ParkSense front and rear parking sensors and a backup camera are especially important on this truck’s large body. The truck also includes a full complement of front and side-impact airbags, while lane-departure warning and blind-spot monitoring are not mentioned.
• Infotainment: The Limited includes navigation, satellite radio, an Alpine stereo with 9 speakers including a subwoofer, and a large customizable digital screen. Bluetooth hands-free connectivity is standard on all trims, and the Sport gets the larger 8.4-inch touchscreen.
• Fuel efficiency: The EcoDiesel returns 20 mpg city/28 highway in rear-wheel-drive form and 19/27 in 4-wheel-drive form. The base gas V6 returns 18 mpg city/25 highway.

Which 2016 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2016 RAM 1500 is offered in 5 trim levels: Tradesman, Express, Sport, Laramie, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the value starting point if you want the lowest entry price and standard Bluetooth hands-free connectivity without paying for extra luxury or tech.
• Express: This trim adds a standard V8, a Class 4 trailer hitch, and a Uconnect 5-inch touchscreen, making it a stronger pick if you want more capability and convenience for the money.
• Sport: The Sport brings body-color bumpers, HID projector headlamps, a standard air suspension, and the larger 8.4-inch touchscreen, so it suits buyers who want a more upscale feel without jumping to the top end.
• Laramie: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds heated leather seats, 20-inch wheels, and the ParkSense system with backup camera.
• Limited: This is the luxury choice, with navigation, heated/cooled seats, a heated steering wheel, full leather seating, and the most premium cabin presentation.

The safety-focused equipment becomes more useful as you move up the lineup, especially once ParkSense and the backup camera are included.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 RAM 1500?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 5,554 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.67% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 64.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,272, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $17,272 sits slightly below last year's $18,706.

That price movement suggests the truck has softened enough to create a more buyer-friendly entry point, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to last year’s average. Strong condition and desirable equipment should matter more when you eventually resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 RAM 1500 safe?

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety content highlights a standard backup camera and ParkSense front and rear parking sensors, both of which are especially useful on a large pickup. It also notes a full complement of front and side-impact airbags. The truck does not feature lane-departure warning or blind-spot monitoring, so you should not expect advanced driver aids on every trim.

Should I buy a 2016 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 64.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.67% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 stands out for its luxury-truck focus, especially the Limited trim and available EcoDiesel V6.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $15,599, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $17,272 average.
• It offers a broad range of powertrain choices and a polished, comfort-focused driving experience.

The bottom line: Choose the 2016 if you want the stronger luxury-truck personality and are comfortable paying a bit more for it. If your priority is lower purchase price, the 2015 is the better value-oriented path.

How does the 2016 RAM 1500 compare to the 2016 Ford F-150?

Our experts score the 2016 RAM 1500 8.3/10 and the 2016 Ford F-150 8.5/10. The RAM leans harder into luxury and comfort, while the Ford edges it on overall expert score and has slightly more listings available. The RAM also has the stronger good-and-great deal share, while the Ford has a slightly higher accident-free share.
