Used 2016 Nissan Pathfinder for Sale nearAlexandria, VA

How much does the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder cost?

Prices have softened 9.68% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 787 listings available, which gives you a meaningful pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, smooth driving experience, comfort, power, and cargo space, especially when the third row is in use. The Pathfinder also fits well if you want a family-sized crossover SUV that covers daily hauling duties without much fuss.

That said, the overall impression is still more functional than exciting, so you should expect practicality first and personality second. The market also shows 30.2% good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free feel, with repeated praise for the Pathfinder’s comfort, space, and everyday usability. The expert evaluation also describes the 3.5-liter V6 as dependable and powerful, which supports the sense that the core drivetrain is built for long-term use.

Nissan also includes a few ownership-friendly touches, such as Easy Fill Tire Alert, which can make routine upkeep simpler. Even so, used buyers should still check maintenance history closely, because long-term ownership risk depends heavily on how well the CVT and other wear items were cared for.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Nissan Pathfinder?

At 55.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the vehicle’s equipment matches the trim level you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S trim level is the basic entry point with front-wheel drive, while the SV, SL, and Platinum add more equipment. The SL also gets Tech and Premium sub-trim designations, and the Platinum is the most fully equipped version.
• Powertrain: The Pathfinder uses a single 3.5-liter V6 with 260 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque, paired with a CVT. Front-wheel drive is standard, and 4WD is optional with automatic and lock modes.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a reversing camera with rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot warning, a 360-degree top-down monitor, and Easy Fill Tire Alert. It does not offer drowsy-driver detection, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, forward-collision warning, or automatic emergency braking.
• Infotainment: The system does not offer natural voice recognition, smartphone projection, or NissanConnect with Mobile Apps. It also lacks Wi-Fi, text messaging support, automatic collision notification, and roadside-assistance connectivity.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 returned 20.2 mpg on the test loop, just short of the EPA’s estimate of 21 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2016 Nissan Pathfinder trim should I buy?

The 2016 Nissan Pathfinder is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SV, SL, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the least expensive way into the Pathfinder, and it makes sense if you mainly want the space and family utility without paying for extras.
• SV: This is the trim to target if you want the best balance of value and equipment, since it adds meaningful comfort and convenience without jumping all the way to luxury pricing.
• SL: This is the better choice if you want a more upscale cabin, and the Tech and Premium sub-trim designations make it the most feature-rich middle ground.
• Platinum: This is the top choice if you want the most equipment and are willing to pay for it, especially if you want the most fully loaded Pathfinder experience.

The safety content also notes that the Pathfinder cannot be equipped with forward-collision warning or automatic emergency braking, so you should not expect those features on any trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Nissan Pathfinder?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 787 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.68% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 55.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,335, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder's resale value?

The current average of $9,335 sits slightly below last year's $10,335.

That decline suggests the Pathfinder has already absorbed some of its near-term depreciation, which can help future sellers if prices stabilize. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in good condition, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss when it’s time to sell.

The market still rewards practical family SUVs with strong demand, especially when they offer space and comfort. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder safe?

The 2016 Nissan Pathfinder earns a Top Safety Pick designation from IIHS and a five-star overall crash-test rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Nissan equips it with a reversing camera with rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot warning, and a 360-degree top-down monitor. Those features help with low-speed maneuvering and lane-change awareness, but the Pathfinder does not offer drowsy-driver detection, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, forward-collision warning, or automatic emergency braking.

The main caveat is that it loses its Top Safety Pick designation because those collision-avoidance features are not available.

Should I buy a 2016 Nissan Pathfinder or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.68% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 combines a spacious cabin with a smooth ride and strong third-row usefulness.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $10,610, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $9,335 average.
• It offers a more car-based platform with lots of cargo and passenger room.

The bottom line: If you want the lower purchase price and can live with the 2016’s dated tech and modest personality, it’s the better value play. If you’re willing to spend more for the next model year’s broader appeal and slightly newer packaging, the 2017 is the cleaner alternative.
