User feedback points to reliability as one of the model’s biggest strengths, with owners describing it as dependable and something they can count on over the long term. That kind of praise matters if you want a used luxury sedan that should feel reassuring to own after the purchase. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the reputation and more about the condition of the specific car you choose.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Lexus IS?

At 40.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been driven hard or modified. Focus your condition check on signs of past bodywork, uneven panel gaps, tire wear, and any issues that could affect ride quality or long-term ownership.

What is the 2016 Lexus IS's resale value?

The current average of $18,272 sits slightly below last year's $18,479.

That small decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more carefully now but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that stable demand matters more than chasing appreciation in a segment like this. A well-kept example with strong appeal should still be easier to move than one with accident history or visible wear.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Lexus IS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 40.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.12% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $17,531, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $18,272 average.
• It emphasizes driving enjoyment and value.

The bottom line: Choose the 2016 if you want the stronger overall shopping case, especially with its current pricing, solid owner satisfaction, and decent deal availability. If your priority is saving money above all else, the 2015 is the better value-oriented path, but you should expect to trade some of the 2016’s broader appeal for a lower entry price.
