How much does the 2016 Kia Sorento cost?

Prices have softened 7.14% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,164 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2016 Kia Sorento a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Kia Sorento earns a 4.6/5 user rating and an 8.8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

User feedback repeatedly highlights reliability, performance, smooth ride quality, handling, and good fuel efficiency. That lines up with the Sorento’s all-new, more upscale design and refined interior, plus its appeal as a crossover that feels more mature and better equipped than a typical family hauler.

If you want a stylish, practical SUV with a polished cabin and broad everyday usefulness, this year’s Sorento fits that brief well. 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2016 Kia Sorento reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to reliability, dependable performance, and a trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers. The expert evaluation also emphasizes the Sorento’s solid everyday behavior, including its quiet cabin, confident braking, and composed steering, which all support a sense of durability over time.

Kia’s warranty coverage adds another ownership advantage, including a 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific vehicle you choose has been maintained well and hasn’t accumulated hidden wear.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Kia Sorento?

At 58.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually strong. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment on the window sticker or listing actually matches the vehicle in front of you.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base L is well equipped, but higher trims add features like UVO eServices, a rear camera, heated front seats, leather trim, navigation, blind-spot detection, and a surround-view monitor.
• Powertrain: The Sorento offers a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder, a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 240 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, and a 3.3-liter V6 with 290 hp and 252 lb-ft of torque.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes dual front advanced airbags, side airbags, side curtain airbags, a rollover sensor, ABS, stability control, traction control, and electronic brakeforce distribution. Higher trims add blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, forward-collision warnings, lane-departure warnings, and advanced smart cruise control.
• Infotainment: The Sorento offers an 8-inch color display, Bluetooth wireless connectivity, UVO eServices, voice-command navigation, Sirius traffic, and available smartphone-linked features through the system.
• Fuel efficiency: The turbocharged AWD setup is rated at 19 mpg city/25 highway/22 combined, and the expert review notes an average of 21.0 in mixed driving.

Which 2016 Kia Sorento trim should I buy?

The 2016 Kia Sorento is offered in 8 trim levels: L, LX, LX V6, EX, EX V6, SX V6, Limited, and Limited V6.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the value starting point, and it already brings a long list of standard equipment, including Bluetooth, a USB/auxiliary jack, steering-wheel controls, and remote keyless entry. It makes sense if you want the Sorento’s core strengths at the lowest entry price.
• LX: This trim adds UVO eServices, roof rails, a rear camera, and more available comfort features, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers.
• LX V6: Choose this if you want the stronger 3.3-liter V6 and standard third-row seating without jumping all the way to the upper trims.
• EX: This is where the Sorento starts to feel more upscale, with standard dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, leather trim, and access to more advanced tech and safety options.
• EX V6: This is the better pick if you want the EX’s upgraded equipment plus the V6, third row, and rear air conditioning.
• SX V6: This trim turns many EX V6 options into standard equipment and adds more premium touches, so it suits you if you want a more fully loaded Sorento.
• Limited: This is the top choice for shoppers who want the most advanced available tech and safety features, including optional surround-view monitoring and advanced driver aids.
• Limited V6: This is the most complete version of the Sorento, pairing the V6 with the highest equipment level and the most upscale feel.

The safety package is broad across the lineup, but some of the most advanced driver-assistance features are reserved for higher trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Kia Sorento?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.

• Deal availability: 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,164 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.14% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,775, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Kia Sorento's resale value?

The current average of $9,775 sits slightly below last year's $10,526.

That decline suggests the Sorento has become more affordable for used buyers, but it also means a future seller may face a softer pricing environment than owners saw a year ago. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can help offset some of that depreciation when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Kia Sorento safe?

The 2016 Kia Sorento received the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s top rating of Good in all tests and earned 2015 Top Safety Pick status for its crash-test performance.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes dual front advanced airbags, dual front seat-mounted side airbags, side curtain airbags for the first and second rows, a rollover sensor, ABS, stability control, traction control, and electronic brakeforce distribution. Higher trims add a rear camera with available back-up warning, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, a surround-view monitor, advanced smart cruise control, forward-collision warnings, and lane-departure warnings.

Should I buy a 2016 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.14% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 brings an all-new design, a refined interior, and a new turbocharged engine option.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $8,511, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $9,775 average.
• It offers stylish features and fair pricing, but has weaker fuel economy and crash-test concerns.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $10,877, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $9,775 average.
• It improves overall balance with stronger praise for styling, comfort, safety, technology, and driving dynamics.

The bottom line: The 2016 is the right pick if you want the redesigned Sorento at a lower used price than the 2017. If your priority is saving money, the 2015 can still make sense, but you should weigh its weaker overall package carefully.
