How much does the 2016 Kia Sorento cost?

Prices have softened 6.50% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,186 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2016 Kia Sorento a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Kia Sorento earns a 4.64/5 user rating and an 8.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

Drivers consistently praise its reliability, smooth ride, handling, and good fuel efficiency. The overview also points to a more upscale appearance and refined interior, which makes it a stronger fit if you want a crossover that feels more polished and modern. If you value a family-friendly SUV with broad appeal and a well-rounded feature set, this year’s Sorento lines up well with that use case. 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2016 Kia Sorento reliable?

Owners rate it 4.64/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback highlights reliability, and the review summary also points to performance that owners feel good about over time. The expert evaluation reinforces that impression with language about lasting build quality and ownership confidence, while the cost-effectiveness discussion notes Kia’s strong warranty coverage and affordable ownership profile. If you’re shopping used, the main long-term risk is less about the Sorento’s core durability and more about finding one that has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by heavy family use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Kia Sorento?

At 59.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment on the car matches the trim level being advertised. If you’re comparing multiple listings, the cleanest example with the best maintenance record is usually the safer buy.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base L is well equipped, but higher trims add features such as UVO eServices, a rear camera, heated front seats, leather trim, navigation, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, and more upscale interior touches. The biggest gaps at the lower end are convenience, infotainment, and advanced safety equipment.
• Powertrain: The Sorento starts with a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder and a 6-speed automatic, and select trims add a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 240 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. A 3.3-liter V6 is also available, and the turbo model is described as peppy with only a small amount of turbo lag.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes dual front advanced airbags, side airbags, side curtain airbags, a rollover sensor, ABS, stability control, traction control, and electronic brakeforce distribution. Higher trims add or offer a rear camera, back-up warning, surround-view monitor, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, advanced smart cruise control, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning.
• Infotainment: The Sorento offers an 8-inch color display on higher trims, UVO eServices, Bluetooth wireless connectivity, Sirius traffic, and voice-command navigation. The system also supports smartphone app features, and top trims add premium audio and additional connectivity features.
• Fuel efficiency: The turbocharged all-wheel-drive setup is rated at 19 mpg city/25 highway/22 combined, and it takes regular unleaded gas.

Which 2016 Kia Sorento trim should I buy?

The 2016 Kia Sorento is offered in 8 trim levels: L, LX, LX V6, EX, EX V6, SX V6, Limited, and Limited V6.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the value starting point if you want the Sorento’s core space and standard equipment without paying for extras. It includes the basics you need, but it leaves out many of the convenience and safety upgrades found higher up the range.
• LX: This is the first trim that starts to broaden the Sorento’s appeal with UVO eServices, a rear camera, and more available comfort features. It’s a smart step up if you want a better daily driver without jumping too far in price.
• LX V6: Choose this if you want more power and the standard third row, since it adds the 3.3-liter V6 and makes seven-passenger seating part of the package. It’s the better fit if you regularly carry people and want stronger acceleration.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more upscale feel, standard dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, leather trim, and more available tech and safety features. It’s the sweet spot if you want a well-equipped Sorento without going all the way to the top.
• EX V6: Pick this if you want the EX’s equipment with the stronger V6 and the added practicality of the third row and rear air conditioning. It suits buyers who want comfort and family flexibility in one package.
• SX V6: This trim turns many EX V6 options into standard equipment and adds more premium touches such as body-color accents, LED rear lighting, memory seating, and a more upscale cabin presentation. It’s for you if you want the Sorento to feel fully loaded.
• Limited: This is the most feature-rich turbo model and the one to target if you want the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine plus the most advanced available safety and convenience features. It’s the top choice for shoppers who want maximum equipment and don’t mind paying for it.
• Limited V6: Choose this if you want the top-end equipment with the V6, plus the third row and rear air conditioning. It’s the most complete family-hauling version in the lineup.

The safety package is broad across the range, but the most advanced driver-assistance features are concentrated on higher trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Kia Sorento?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to make comparison shopping worthwhile.

• Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,186 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.50% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,962, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Kia Sorento's resale value?

The current average of $9,972 sits slightly below last year's $10,665.

That softer pricing trend suggests the Sorento is currently in a buyer-friendly phase, which can matter if you plan to sell later. A lower entry price today can also help you avoid overpaying for depreciation that has already happened. For a future seller, the key advantage is that a well-kept Sorento with strong equipment and a clean history should still attract shoppers looking for value and features.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.64/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Kia Sorento safe?

The 2016 Kia Sorento received a Good rating from IIHS and earned 2015 Top Safety Pick status for its crash-test performance.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes dual front advanced airbags, side airbags, side curtain airbags, a rollover sensor, ABS, stability control, traction control, and electronic brakeforce distribution. Higher trims add or offer a rear camera, back-up warning, surround-view monitor, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, advanced smart cruise control, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning. The main caveat is that some of the most advanced driver-assistance features are reserved for higher trims or optional packages.

Should I buy a 2016 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.50% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.64/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings an all-new design, a refined interior, and a turbo engine option.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $8,282, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $9,972 average.
• It’s a stylish, well-equipped crossover with strong value.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $11,187, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $9,972 average.
• It broadens appeal with standout balance across comfort, safety, technology, and driving dynamics.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of modern design, strong features, and current-market value, the 2016 is the right place to start. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 can save you money, while the 2017 is the better path if you’re willing to pay more for a broader all-around package.
