How much does the 2016 Jeep Wrangler cost?

Prices have softened 8.02% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 5,791 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.

Is the 2016 Jeep Wrangler a good car?

Yes — it earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 6.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its fun driving experience, comfortable interior, and impressive power, especially with the manual transmission. The Wrangler’s appeal is strongest if you want a distinctive, go-anywhere vehicle with a convertible top, standard 4-wheel drive, and rugged character. It also fits buyers who value simplicity and lower repair costs more than everyday refinement.

The market still shows meaningful demand, with 34.5% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2016 Jeep Wrangler reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a vehicle that owners tend to trust for its simplicity, lower repair costs, and generally dependable character. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that you can buy it knowing what you’ll get, which reinforces its straightforward, long-term ownership appeal. The available maintenance-friendly ownership experience helps, too, since the model is positioned as a low-tech throwback with a strong fanbase.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that its rugged design comes with compromises, so condition and maintenance history matter more than with a more conventional SUV.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Jeep Wrangler?

At 64.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you get serious about any listing, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on body condition, signs of off-road use, and whether the vehicle has been modified. Because this model is often customized, you’ll want to check that any changes were done cleanly and that the truck still drives and seals properly. Pay close attention to wear items that can reveal hard use, especially if the seller markets it as trail-ready.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport trim is the most basic, with manual windows and door locks, air conditioning, 16-inch steel wheels, and cloth seats. Sport S adds power windows and locks, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and 17-inch aluminum wheels. Sahara adds brighter interior accents, automatic headlights, Sirius satellite radio, 18-inch polished wheels, and color-keyed fender flares. Rubicon is the off-road-focused choice with BF Goodrich off-road tires and an electronically disconnecting front sway bar.
• Powertrain: Every version uses a 3.6-liter V6 with 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic. Standard 4-wheel drive is part of the package, and the Rubicon gets a more trail-oriented 4:1 crawl ratio.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes multistage airbags, electronic stability control, electronic roll mitigation, and ultra-strong roll bars. It does not offer lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision avoidance, or even a backup camera.
• Infotainment: The base setup is the Radio 130 with a CD player, MP3 capability, and a front auxiliary audio jack. A 6.5-inch touchscreen adds Bluetooth connectivity, GPS-based navigation, and front-facing aux audio and USB capabilities.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel economy is estimated at 16 mpg city, 21 highway, and 18 combined with the manual transmission. With the automatic, highway mileage drops to 20 mpg.

Which 2016 Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?

The 2016 Jeep Wrangler is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Wrangler basics without much comfort equipment. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and do not mind manual windows and locks.
• Sport S: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds power windows and locks, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an auto-dimming mirror, and 17-inch aluminum wheels without jumping all the way to the more expensive trims.
• Sahara: This trim leans more toward comfort and appearance, with brighter interior accents, automatic headlights, Sirius satellite radio, 18-inch polished wheels, and color-keyed fender flares. It suits you if you want a more polished daily-driver feel.
• Rubicon: This is the trail-focused choice, with BF Goodrich off-road tires, an electronically disconnecting front sway bar, and a more aggressive 4:1 crawl ratio. It’s the one to buy if off-road capability is your priority.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, but the model still lacks several modern driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Jeep Wrangler?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing movement to reward comparison shopping.

• Deal availability: 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 5,791 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.02% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 64.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,385, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Jeep Wrangler's resale value?

The current average of $17,385 sits slightly below last year's $18,902.

That price decline suggests the market has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can also shape future resale expectations. If you buy at the right price now, you may have less downside risk than a shopper who paid closer to last year’s average. The Wrangler’s strong enthusiast appeal can help support demand, but resale will still depend heavily on condition, mileage, and whether the vehicle has been modified.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Jeep Wrangler safe?

The 2016 Jeep Wrangler earns a 3/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes with multistage airbags, electronic stability control, electronic roll mitigation, and ultra-strong roll bars. It also offers trailer sway control and strong braking capability, which can help in certain driving situations. But it lacks several modern safety technologies, including lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision avoidance, and a backup camera.

That limited safety equipment is an important caveat if you want a used SUV with more advanced driver assistance.

Should I buy a 2016 Jeep Wrangler or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 64.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.02% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines a convertible top, standard 4-wheel drive, and rugged equipment in a way that keeps its appeal broad.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $16,332, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $17,385 average.
• It stays true to its rugged identity while adding a few updates.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of current pricing, inventory, and model-year appeal, the 2016 is the better starting point. If your priority is saving money upfront and you’re comfortable giving up some of the current year’s market balance, the 2015 is the value-oriented alternative.
