How much does the 2016 Hyundai Tucson cost?

Prices have softened 3.54% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,594 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2016 Hyundai Tucson a good car?

With a 3.83/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating, the 2016 Tucson lands in appealing territory if you want a compact crossover that balances style, comfort, and everyday usefulness.

The model scores 10/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Drivers repeatedly praise the smooth ride, comfortable interior, and reliability, and many also like features such as cooled seats and the panoramic roof. The Tucson’s redesigned cabin and strong safety reputation fit well if you want a small SUV that feels more polished and practical than basic.

Only 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so you may need to shop carefully to find the strongest value.

Is the 2016 Hyundai Tucson reliable?

The 2016 Tucson benefits from Hyundai’s long-running reputation for durability, and the available warranty coverage and roadside assistance help support that case for dependability.

User feedback also points to reliability as a strength, with many drivers describing the Tucson as reliable, while the expert review notes that Hyundai’s warranty and history of durability bode well for long-term ownership. At the same time, the 7-speed automated manual transmission is singled out as the main area that could create owner complaints over time.

For used buyers, that means the long-term risk is less about the overall design and more about whether the transmission and prior maintenance history have been kind to the specific vehicle you’re considering.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Hyundai Tucson?

At 62.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with incomplete service records. Focus on signs of prior body damage, uneven panel gaps, and any evidence that safety systems or drivetrain components have been repaired poorly. Because this model’s appeal depends heavily on condition, a clean, well-documented example is worth more than a cheaper one with question marks.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE is the entry point, while Sport and Limited add more equipment and features. The Limited stands out for its larger 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, premium sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control, Blue Link connected services, and hands-free power liftgate, while the Sport and Limited also add blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assist. The base trim misses those higher-end convenience and safety upgrades.
• Powertrain: Every version except the base SE uses a turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder with 175 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 7-speed EcoShift dual-clutch automated manual transmission. The engine feels stronger once it’s on boost, but low-speed response can be delayed by turbo lag and transmission behavior.
• Safety package: Every 2016 Tucson includes a standard reversing camera. Sport and Limited models add blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assist, while the Limited and its optional Ultimate Package are required for automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection; the Ultimate Package also adds lane-departure warning.
• Infotainment: Limited models get an 8-inch touchscreen with navigation and a premium sound system, plus Blue Link connected services. The system adds remote and safety-related functions, but voice recognition and destination entry can be frustrating.
• Fuel efficiency: The Tucson is rated at 24 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined, and the expert review recorded 24.7 mpg in mixed driving.

Which 2016 Hyundai Tucson trim should I buy?

The 2016 Hyundai Tucson is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, Eco, Sport, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the least expensive way into the Tucson, but it’s also the most stripped-down version. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and can live without the extra convenience and safety features found higher up the range.
• Eco: This trim sits above the SE and is a better fit if you want a more feature-rich Tucson without jumping all the way to the upper trims. It’s the value-oriented middle ground in the lineup.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the hands-free power liftgate and the blind-spot warning system with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assist. If you want a stronger mix of convenience and safety without going all the way to Limited, this is the one to target.
• Limited: Choose this if you want the most equipment. It adds the 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, premium audio, dual-zone climate control, Blue Link services, and access to the automatic emergency braking and lane-departure warning features through the Ultimate Package.

The Sport and Limited trims include the blind-spot warning system with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assist, while the Limited and its Ultimate Package are required for the automatic emergency braking and lane-departure warning features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Hyundai Tucson?

This looks like a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you have room to shop, but the best examples still deserve quick action.

• Deal availability: 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,594 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.54% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 62.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,201, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Hyundai Tucson's resale value?

The current average of $11,340 sits slightly below last year's $11,757.

That price movement suggests the Tucson has softened enough to help you buy more carefully, but not so much that the market has lost confidence in it. If you plan to sell later, the current trend points to a model that still has broad appeal, though condition and equipment will matter a lot when it comes time to set your asking price.

Because the Tucson remains a popular compact crossover with strong styling and useful features, well-kept examples should continue to hold up better than neglected ones. A clean history and desirable trim will matter more than mileage alone when you eventually resell.

Is the 2016 Hyundai Tucson safe?

The 2016 Tucson earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS and gets Good ratings in every crash-test assessment, along with a Superior rating for front crash prevention.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Every 2016 Tucson comes with a standard reversing camera, and Sport and Limited models add blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assist. The Limited trim and its optional Ultimate Package are required for automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and the Ultimate Package also adds lane-departure warning.

Should I buy a 2016 Hyundai Tucson or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.54% compared with last year.
• The 2016 model year is the fully redesigned Tucson, with standout styling, a more functional interior, strong safety ratings, and broad feature availability.

The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Tucson with the strongest mix of style, safety, and everyday usefulness, the 2016 is the right place to focus. If your priority is stretching your budget, you can still find value here, but you should be selective and favor clean-history examples with the right trim and equipment.
