How much does the 2016 Honda Pilot cost?

Prices have softened 5.00% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,148 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and equipment.

Is the 2016 Honda Pilot a good car?

Yes — the 4.82/5 user rating and 7.33/10 expert rating both point to a well-liked family SUV. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, family-friendly features like a DVD player, and comfortable everyday driving manners. Good gas mileage also comes up repeatedly, which matters if you want a three-row vehicle that still feels manageable for daily use.

The Pilot’s tall, truck-like look is paired with a minivan-based layout, so you get a practical people mover without giving up SUV styling. That makes it a strong fit if you want comfort, usability, and family-focused versatility in one package.

35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Honda Pilot reliable?

Owners rate it 4.82/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience centered on spaciousness, comfort, and family usefulness. The expert notes also emphasize Honda’s solid reliability and resale, which supports the case for long-term confidence.

The Pilot’s powertrain is described as smooth and strong, with cylinder deactivation that works imperceptibly under light loads, which adds to the sense of everyday dependability. Honda also keeps the order sheet simple, which can help reduce ownership complexity.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the core vehicle and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not worn down by family-duty use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Honda Pilot?

At 59.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has any accident record. Focus on signs of wear in the cabin, electronics, and safety systems, since this model is often used as a family hauler and may have seen heavy daily use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Honda offers five trims with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and the loaded Touring tester shows how much equipment can separate the upper trims from the lower ones. The safety package is available on EX trims and standard on Touring and Elite trims, while blind-spot monitoring is limited to the Elite.
• Powertrain: A single 3.5-liter V6 makes 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque, with a 6-speed automatic on LX and EX and a 9-speed on Touring and Elite. Fuel economy is listed at 19/27 mpg for FWD LX and EX, 20/27 mpg for FWD Touring and Elite, 18/26 mpg for AWD LX and EX, and 19/26 mpg for AWD Touring and Elite.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, auto-braking, and lane-keeping assist. It is available on EX trims and standard on Touring and Elite trims, with blind-spot monitoring only on the Elite.
• Infotainment: Loaded models get up to 5 USB ports, a 115-volt household outlet, an HDMI input for the rear BluRay unit, Garmin-based navigation, and a 10-speaker, 540-watt sound system. Honda LaneWatch and other upper-level tech features add convenience, especially on higher trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The Pilot is rated at 19/27 mpg in FWD LX and EX, 20/27 mpg in FWD Touring and Elite, 18/26 mpg in AWD LX and EX, and 19/26 mpg in AWD Touring and Elite.

Which 2016 Honda Pilot trim should I buy?

The 2016 Honda Pilot is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, Elite.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Pilot formula with the 3.5-liter V6 and 6-speed automatic. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but you give up much of the convenience and safety content that makes higher trims more appealing.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds access to the Honda Sensing safety package while staying below the luxury-leaning upper trims. If you want the strongest mix of price, equipment, and safety, this is the one to focus on first.
• EX-L: This trim builds on the EX with the leather-focused equipment implied by the name and sits in the middle of the lineup. It suits you if you want a more upscale cabin without jumping all the way to the Touring.
• Touring: This is the right choice if you want the more loaded Pilot experience, including the 9-speed automatic, auto start/stop, acoustic lamination, and the richer tech setup. It is the trim to target if comfort and features matter more than keeping the purchase price down.
• Elite: This is the top trim and the only one with blind-spot monitoring. Choose it if you want the most complete safety and convenience package available in this model year.

Honda Sensing is available on EX trims and standard on Touring and Elite trims, so safety-minded shoppers should pay close attention to those versions.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Honda Pilot?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,148 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.00% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,760, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Honda Pilot's resale value?

The current average of $14,837 sits slightly below last year's $15,617.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also mean slower appreciation if you plan to sell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that the Pilot’s value is holding in a relatively stable band rather than dropping sharply.

Because the year’s pricing range is fairly tight, condition and equipment will matter a lot when it comes time to resell. A well-kept example with desirable safety and convenience features should be easier to position competitively.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.82/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Honda Pilot safe?

The 2016 Honda Pilot earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and top Good ratings across its crash tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is the key driver-assistance suite here, and it includes auto-braking, forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist. It is available on EX trims and standard on Touring and Elite trims, while blind-spot monitoring is limited to the Elite.

A standard backup camera with three views adds another layer of visibility, and the side frontal airbags are designed to vent if they detect the passenger is in the deployment path. That said, if you want the fullest safety package, you should focus on the higher trims that include the full Honda Sensing setup.

Should I buy a 2016 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.00% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.82/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesign brings a more streamlined look, stronger safety credentials, and a more modern family-hauler feel.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $11,818, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $14,837 average.
• It offers spacious, practical family transportation, but its design is aging.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $17,026, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $14,837 average.
• It adds spaciousness, reliability, and available tech with a comfortable ride.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety, and modern family-friendly appeal, the 2016 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 can still work as a value play, but you give up some of the redesign’s appeal. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer-feeling package, the 2017 is worth a look, though it comes at a higher price.
