Is the 2016 Honda Odyssey a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Honda Odyssey earns a 4.9/5 user rating and an 8.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, good gas mileage, and great handling. The Odyssey also stands out as a practical family vehicle with sliding doors and versatile seating, which fits its role as a busy-household hauler. With its family-focused layout and everyday usability, it makes the most sense if you want comfort and flexibility over excitement.

32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is still room to shop carefully.

Is the 2016 Honda Odyssey reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. Reviewers repeatedly describe it as dependable for family use, and the feedback emphasizes a vehicle you can count on for daily transportation. The expert evaluation also highlights Honda’s strong reputation for reliability and resale value, and it notes a comprehensive warranty with roadside assistance and powertrain coverage.

That said, used buyers should still pay close attention to maintenance records and overall condition, since long-term ownership risk depends heavily on how well a family vehicle has been cared for.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Honda Odyssey?

At 54.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection. Focus on signs of past bodywork, interior wear from family use, and whether the features you want are actually present on the trim you’re considering. Because some convenience and safety equipment is concentrated higher in the range, it’s worth checking the exact equipment list before you commit.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LX is the only trim with seating for 7 instead of 8, and it lacks Honda LaneWatch; higher trims add more convenience and safety equipment, with the Touring Elite standing out for the most complete feature set.
• Powertrain: A 3.5-liter V6 with 248 hp and a 6-speed automatic delivers smooth, responsive power, and fuel economy is rated at 19 mpg city and 28 highway.
• Safety package: Vehicle stability assist, traction control, antilock brakes, daytime running lights, and a rear-view camera are standard, while forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot information are reserved for select trims.
• Infotainment: Every trim gets an 8-inch high-resolution display, Bluetooth, and a USB audio interface, while higher trims add a touchscreen, SiriusXM, navigation, and a rear entertainment system.
• Fuel efficiency: The Odyssey is rated at 19 mpg city and 28 highway, with a combined figure of 22 mpg.

Which 2016 Honda Odyssey trim should I buy?

The 2016 Honda Odyssey is offered in 6 trim levels: LX, EX, SE, EX-L, Touring, Touring Elite.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the least expensive way into the Odyssey, but it is also the most basic. You still get useful standard equipment, including a rear-view camera, power front seats, and the 8-inch display, but it is the trim most likely to leave you wanting more convenience and safety features.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds power sliding doors, push-button start, Honda LaneWatch, and a more usable infotainment setup without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• SE: This trim is aimed at families who want rear-seat entertainment and the HondaVac vacuum cleaner, plus a 115-volt outlet and SiriusXM radio. It makes sense if those family-friendly extras matter more to you than broader feature depth.
• EX-L: This is the smart choice if you want a more upscale daily experience, since it adds forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, a power tailgate, heated leather front seats, and a moonroof.
• Touring: This trim is the better pick if you want navigation and the rear entertainment system together, along with additional comfort and appearance upgrades.
• Touring Elite: This is the top choice if you want the most complete Odyssey, including the blind-spot information system, upgraded headlights, the strongest audio setup, and the widest entertainment screen.

The safety package is strongest on the higher trims, so if driver-assistance features matter most to you, shop above the base model.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Honda Odyssey?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.

• Deal availability: 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,552 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.92% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 54.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,278, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Honda Odyssey's resale value?

The current average of $13,646 sits slightly below last year's $14,352.

That softer pricing suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend more on condition, mileage, and equipment than on broad market momentum. Well-kept examples with desirable features should still hold up better than neglected ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Honda Odyssey safe?

The 2016 Honda Odyssey earns a Top Safety Pick from the IIHS and five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests, plus a four-star rollover rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes multiple airbags, active front head restraints, vehicle stability control, antilock brakes, brake assist, electronic brakeforce distribution, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a rear-view camera. Forward collision warning, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot information are available on select trims, while Honda LaneWatch is standard on all but the base LX.

The main caveat is that it lacks autonomous braking, which kept it from earning the IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus rating.

Should I buy a 2016 Honda Odyssey or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 54.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.92% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds the SE trim and keeps the Odyssey’s strong family-focused safety and practicality.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $12,583, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $13,646 average.
• It emphasizes design flair while still serving as a practical family minivan.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of features, safety, and current-market value, the 2016 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2015 can make sense, especially if you find a clean example with the equipment you want.

How does the 2016 Honda Odyssey compare to the 2016 Toyota Sienna?

Our experts score the 2016 Honda Odyssey 8.2/10 and the 2016 Toyota Sienna 7.7/10.

The Odyssey is the better fit if you want a more carlike driving feel, stronger owner satisfaction, and a lower average used price. The Sienna counters with more horsepower and slightly better deal availability, but the Odyssey’s combination of practicality, safety, and value gives it the edge for most used minivan shoppers.
