Used 2016 Honda HR-V for Sale nearSaint Paul, MN

How much does the 2016 Honda HR-V cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 622 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2016 Honda HR-V a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Honda HR-V earns a 4.56/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its good value, smooth driving, spaciousness, and reliability, and they also call out useful features like the passenger mirror camera. In the overview, it comes across as a compact SUV that keeps Honda’s familiar crossover formula intact, so it makes sense if you want everyday usability and a value-focused small SUV rather than a radical design or performance play. The market also shows 34.2% good or great deals, which suggests there are still attractive listings to find.

Is the 2016 Honda HR-V reliable?

Owners rate it 4.56/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to reliability, and the expert notes reinforce that with language about a trouble-free Honda ownership experience and 100,000-mile tuneup intervals. That combination suggests the HR-V is built for steady, long-term use rather than constant attention. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about the core mechanical package and more about finding a well-kept example with no hidden wear or neglected maintenance.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Honda HR-V?

At 52.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, alignment, and any signs of prior repair. Because the HR-V’s infotainment and control layout can be distracting, it’s also worth checking that all electronics, cameras, and touchscreen functions work properly during a test drive. Focus on overall condition and maintenance records, since those will tell you more about the quality of a used example than mileage alone.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX covers the basics with a rear-view camera, Magic Seat rear seat, 17-inch alloy wheels, a 5-inch color LCD, Bluetooth, and USB connectivity, while the EX adds automatic climate control, rear privacy glass, a power moonroof, heated front seats, push-button start, automatic headlights, and a 7-inch touchscreen. The EX-L with Navigation adds roof rails, leather-trimmed seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and navigation with traffic information and voice recognition.
• Powertrain: All models use a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine with 141 hp and 128 lb-ft of torque. The CVT is described as well matched to the engine, with smooth response from stops to highway speeds, while the manual transmission is the standard setup on front-wheel-drive models.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes a rear-view camera, brake assist, and vehicle stability assist. Honda’s ACE body structure is also part of the package, and the optional Honda LaneWatch camera system adds another layer of visibility, though it takes some getting used to.
• Infotainment: The LX uses a 5-inch color LCD, while the EX upgrades to a 7-inch WVGA touchscreen. Bluetooth, USB connectivity, satellite radio, Pandora integration, HondaLink Next Generation, SMS text-message capability, and navigation with traffic information are all part of the tech story, but the interface itself is a weak point.
• Fuel efficiency: The HR-V is rated at 28 mpg city/35 highway, with 31 mpg combined in front-wheel-drive form and 29 mpg combined with all-wheel drive.

Which 2016 Honda HR-V trim should I buy?

The 2016 Honda HR-V is offered in 3 trim levels: LX, EX, and EX-L with Navigation.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry point and the essentials done well. You still get the rear-view camera, Magic Seat rear seat, Bluetooth, USB connectivity, and the core Honda basics, so it makes sense if you care more about affordability than extras.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the comfort and convenience features many buyers will actually use, including automatic climate control, heated front seats, a power moonroof, push-button start, and the larger touchscreen.
• EX-L with Navigation: Choose this if you want the most upscale HR-V experience, with leather-trimmed seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, roof rails, and navigation with traffic information and voice recognition.

The safety package includes a rear-view camera, brake assist, vehicle stability assist, Honda’s ACE body structure, and the optional Honda LaneWatch camera system.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Honda HR-V?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 622 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 52.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,039, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Honda HR-V's resale value?

The current average of $13,561 sits slightly above last year's $13,543.

That small increase suggests the HR-V has held its value fairly well, which is a good sign if you plan to sell later. Stable pricing also means the market is not showing signs of a sharp drop, so a clean, well-maintained example should remain relatively easy to position competitively. Strong owner satisfaction helps too, because buyers tend to keep looking for models with a good reputation and a positive ownership story.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.56/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Honda HR-V safe?

The HR-V carries an overall five-star safety rating from the U.S. Government’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes a rear-view camera, brake assist, and vehicle stability assist, and Honda’s ACE body structure is part of the design. The optional Honda LaneWatch camera system adds visibility on the passenger side, but it can take time to get used to and may encourage overreliance on the camera instead of mirror checks. The expert safety score is solid, but the infotainment and control layout can create distraction, which is the main caveat to keep in mind.

Should I buy a 2016 Honda HR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 52.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.56/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Sales of small SUVs and crossovers are growing aggressively, and this year’s HR-V fits that trend with a compact, value-focused formula below the CR-V.

The bottom line: The 2016 HR-V makes sense if you want a small crossover with strong owner satisfaction, steady pricing, and a practical feature set. If you’re shopping carefully, it’s a good year to target, especially if you can find a clean example with the equipment you want. Price-sensitive buyers should focus on the best-maintained listings near the low end of the range, while shoppers who want more comfort and convenience should lean toward the better-equipped trims.
