How much does the 2016 Honda Civic cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 2,657 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2016 Honda Civic a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Honda Civic earns a 4.9/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its smooth drive, reliability, and impressive fuel economy, and they also call out its stylish design and high safety ratings. That lines up with the Civic’s goal of feeling more polished and refined while still staying practical and fun to live with. For you, that means a compact car that works well as a commuter, a daily driver, and a small car that feels a step up from basic transportation. The market also shows 29.8% good and great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2016 Honda Civic reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user review summary points to reliability, and the expert summary reinforces the Civic’s thrift and dependability. The driving notes also describe it as composed and easy to live with, which supports the idea that it should be a reassuring used-car choice. If you want a compact car you can count on, this one fits that brief well. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the model’s core durability and more about finding a well-kept example with a clean maintenance history.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Honda Civic?

At 46.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had prior bodywork or multiple owners. Focus on overall condition, signs of uneven wear, and whether the car’s equipment and safety systems work as expected. If a listing looks unusually cheap, make sure the condition and history justify the price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from LX to Touring, and the higher trims add more upscale touches such as chrome accents, polished wheels, full LED lighting, a cleaner gauge layout, and more premium interior materials. The base trim is the one most likely to leave you without some of those comfort and appearance upgrades.
• Powertrain: The Civic uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 158 horsepower on the lower trims, while higher trims get a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder with 174 horsepower. The CVT is standard on most trims, while the base LX uses a 6-speed manual.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes forward-collision alert, auto braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. It is available on every sedan trim, while coupe buyers need to move to the Touring trim to get it.
• Infotainment: The system includes an Android-based interface, Garmin navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth streaming, and a customizable digital instrument panel on the Touring trim. The setup is feature-rich, but some controls are buried and the audio quality is a weak point.
• Fuel efficiency: The CVT-equipped models are rated at 31 mpg city and 42 highway, while the manual LX gets 27/40.

Which 2016 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2016 Honda Civic is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-T, EX-L, Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Civic’s core strengths at the lowest price. It is the trim to consider if you want the most affordable way into the lineup and are comfortable giving up some of the nicer comfort and tech upgrades.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more equipment without pushing you all the way to the top of the range. If you want a more complete daily driver without paying for the most expensive version, this is the one to focus on first.
• EX-T: This trim is the step up if you want the turbocharged 1.5-liter engine and a stronger performance feel. It makes sense if you care more about extra power than about staying near the bottom of the price ladder.
• EX-L: This trim is for you if you want a more upscale Civic with more comfort and convenience features. It sits in the middle of the lineup but leans more toward a premium-feeling daily driver.
• Touring: This is the most fully equipped version, with the richest feature set and the most upscale presentation. Choose it if you want the nicest Civic experience and are willing to pay for it.

Honda Sensing is available on every sedan trim, while coupe buyers need the Touring trim to get that package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Honda Civic?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,657 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 46.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,331, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $13,818 sits slightly above last year's $13,765.

That small increase suggests the Civic has held its value fairly well rather than sliding sharply. For a future seller, that kind of stability is helpful because it points to steady buyer interest and a market that has not weakened much. The current pricing also suggests you are not buying into a rapidly inflating market, which can make ownership costs easier to predict.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Honda Civic safe?

The 2016 Honda Civic sedan earns five-star ratings from NHTSA for frontal crash, side crash, and rollover risk, and the Civic sedan and coupe both earned a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing includes forward-collision alert, auto braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. On the sedan, that package is available across the lineup, while coupe buyers need the Touring trim to get it. The backup camera also offers three views, including a top view and an extra-wide shot. The main caveat is that the driver-assistance systems are helpful, but they are not a substitute for your own attention.

Should I buy a 2016 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 46.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 stands out for its more upscale design, refined build quality, and strong safety ratings.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $12,166, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $13,818 average.
• It is a practical, reliable, and value-focused compact car with strong everyday usability.

The bottom line: If you want the more refined Civic with stronger style, better safety credentials, and a more modern feel, the 2016 is the better pick. If your priority is saving money and you are comfortable giving up some polish and newer features, the 2015 is the smarter budget alternative.

How does the 2016 Honda Civic compare to the 2016 Toyota Corolla?

Our experts score the 2016 Honda Civic 8/10 and the 2016 Toyota Corolla 7.5/10.

The Civic brings more power, better fuel economy, and a more upscale feel, while the Corolla leans more toward value and a lower average used price. The Civic also has the stronger expert safety score and a larger pool of listings, which gives you more room to shop. If you want the more refined and better-rounded compact car, the Civic is the stronger choice; if you want to spend less up front, the Corolla is worth a look.
