How much does the 2016 GMC Terrain cost?

Prices have softened 6.28% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,161 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 GMC Terrain a good car?

Yes — the 4.6/5 user rating suggests you’re looking at a well-liked used SUV. Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, comfort, and features, and they also call out the attractive design and useful technology. If you want a compact SUV that leans toward everyday comfort and practicality rather than sporty performance, the Terrain fits that use case well. 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 GMC Terrain reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a vehicle that many people find comfortable and dependable in daily use, with praise centered on the ride quality and overall ownership experience. At the same time, you should pay close attention to maintenance history and mechanical condition, because long-term ownership risk can rise quickly if a used example has been neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 GMC Terrain?

At 59.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from those with prior damage or repeated claims. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, with extra attention to body condition, alignment, and signs of uneven wear. Because this model year has a mixed reputation, you’ll want to focus on overall condition and documentation rather than relying on appearance alone.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 GMC Terrain?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find value.

• Deal availability: 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,161 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.28% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,032, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 GMC Terrain's resale value?

The current average of $10,116 sits slightly below last year's $10,795.

That price movement suggests the model has softened, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, the same trend means resale upside may be more limited unless your vehicle stands out for condition, mileage, and maintenance history. Well-kept examples should still attract interest, but you’ll want to expect a market that rewards clean, documented vehicles more than average ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 GMC Terrain or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.28% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line:

If you want a comfortable, well-equipped compact SUV and you’re focused on value, the 2016 Terrain can make sense as long as you shop carefully and verify condition. If you’re especially price-sensitive, this year’s softer pricing and decent deal availability make it worth considering, but you should be selective and prioritize clean history and strong maintenance records over the cheapest listing.
