How much does the 2016 GMC Terrain cost?

Prices have softened 5.93% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,189 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2016 GMC Terrain a good car?

Yes — the 2016 GMC Terrain earns a 4.6/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners repeatedly highlight its smooth ride, attractive design, and impressive features, and the comfort and technology come through as the most consistent strengths. It also fits well if you want a compact SUV that feels roomy and easy to live with rather than one built around performance. With 30.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.

Is the 2016 GMC Terrain reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also leans toward dependable everyday use, with praise for the smooth ride, comfort, and features that make it easy to count on for routine driving. The recurring positives around the cabin and technology suggest a vehicle that many owners have found trouble-free enough to keep and recommend. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure you choose a well-kept example, since condition and maintenance history matter more when you’re shopping a model with mixed listing quality.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 GMC Terrain?

At 59.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from those with accident records. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of the body, interior, and mechanical condition, since you want to know whether any prior damage affected the vehicle’s overall quality. Focus especially on signs of uneven wear, repair quality, and how well the cabin and features have held up.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 GMC Terrain?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can be selective without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,189 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.93% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,194, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 GMC Terrain's resale value?

The current average of $10,194 sits slightly below last year's $10,836.

That softer pricing suggests the Terrain has already absorbed some of its near-term depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stays steady. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it’s time to resell. The model’s appeal to comfort-focused shoppers also helps support demand in the used market.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 GMC Terrain or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.93% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2016 Terrain makes the most sense if you want a comfortable, well-liked compact SUV and you’re willing to shop carefully for condition and history. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the cleanest, best-priced example rather than locking onto this year alone.
