How much does the 2016 GMC Terrain cost?

Prices have softened 5.66% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,160 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 GMC Terrain a good car?

Yes — the 4.6/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, impressive features, and attractive design, and they also call out the comfort, technology, and sound system as standout strengths. For you, that makes the Terrain a sensible pick if you want a compact SUV that leans toward comfort and everyday usability rather than sporty performance. With 32.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.

Is the 2016 GMC Terrain reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe it as comfortable and enjoyable to live with, and the feedback highlights a smooth ride and a generally dependable-feeling ownership experience. At the same time, the model year sits within a generation that was known for serious reliability issues, so you should treat condition and maintenance history as especially important on the used market. For long-term ownership, that means the right individual vehicle matters more than the badge alone.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 GMC Terrain?

At 60.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from ones with accident or title concerns. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, with extra attention to mechanical condition, maintenance records, and signs of uneven wear. Because this model year has known reliability concerns in the generation, you should focus on overall condition and documented care rather than price alone.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 GMC Terrain?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you know what to look for.

• Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,160 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.66% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,033, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 GMC Terrain's resale value?

The current average of $10,149 sits slightly below last year's $10,757.

That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. If you keep the vehicle in strong condition and maintain it well, you may be better positioned when it comes time to resell. The current market also shows enough demand to support steady interest from used buyers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 GMC Terrain or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.66% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line:

If you want a comfortable compact SUV and you find a well-documented 2016 Terrain at a fair price, this year can make sense as the primary choice. If you are especially price-sensitive, you should compare nearby model years and focus on the cleanest, best-maintained example rather than chasing the lowest sticker price alone.
