How much does the 2016 GMC Terrain cost?

Prices have softened 8.18% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,181 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and conditions.

Is the 2016 GMC Terrain a good car?

Yes — the 4.6/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, impressive features, attractive design, comfort, and technology, with the sound system and cargo space also drawing positive mention. For you, that makes the Terrain a sensible pick if you want a comfortable, practical compact SUV with a more upscale feel than many rivals. With 31.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful shopping opportunity.

Is the 2016 GMC Terrain reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback highlights a comfortable, trouble-free-feeling ownership experience for many drivers, with praise centered on the ride, features, and everyday usability. That said, the model year’s reputation is shaped by concerns around engine durability, so reliability should be weighed carefully against the specific vehicle you’re considering. For used buyers, the long-term ownership risk is best managed by focusing on maintenance history and avoiding examples with warning signs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 GMC Terrain?

At 60.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from those with accident records. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage vehicle or one with incomplete service documentation. Focus on overall condition, maintenance consistency, and signs of prior bodywork or mechanical neglect before you commit.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 GMC Terrain?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be choosy if you’re patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,181 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.18% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,986, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 GMC Terrain's resale value?

The current average of $9,986 sits slightly below last year's $10,875.

That price movement suggests the Terrain has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future buyers but may limit upside for a seller in the near term. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can help protect value better than the market trend alone would suggest. Demand should remain supported by the model’s comfort-focused appeal and broad shopper interest.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 GMC Terrain or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.18% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2016 Terrain makes sense if you want a comfortable, well-liked compact SUV and you’re willing to shop carefully for condition and history. If you’re price-sensitive, this year’s softer pricing and decent deal availability make it worth considering, but you should be selective and prioritize cleaner examples with strong records.
